Part of that is because he's rich and has never had to develop the skills that other people do to function in society. But I wonder if there isn't a neurological issue, too. Some people of noted that he has features of Aspergers Syndrome: a lack of empathy, inability to pick up social cues. He seems to have very poor impulse control, blurting out things and doing things that are inappropriate, and funny only to him, like pushing his kids' faces into plates of food. Ha ha.

10. The difference between Shrub and Etch-A-Sketch

Neither is very bright, but Shrub knew he wasn't very bright and that he won a lottery by being born into the Bush household. That was the source of his "have a beer with him" everyman appeal.

Mitt, by contrast, really thinks he is better and therefore smarter than everyone else. Nobody has ever told him otherwise and he doesn't have the self-knowledge of having even seen his own weakness to the drinking. Mitt probably has no idea that he is being so insulting; he just thinks he is being refreshingly candid, which is after all part of Obama's and Biden's appeal, isn't it?

As IIRC Robin Williams said, it's like he's an alien who didn't read the whole manual on how to be human. For him there wasn't a test so instead of studying for it he yukked it up by posing as a cop and pulling people over. Because that's totally hilarious if you can get away with it, right?
