Basically, the NRA is demanding an answer with threat.
Think we should respond! The letter, signed by Scott Jones (with his email), names Daniel.Augustine (with his email) - demands an answer from the candidate - with inferences of presumption of hostility.
Coming from a GUN organization - Shheesshh!

Which is it, NRA?
Are you too stupid to do a mail merge or too lazy to do a mail merge?
Please respond immediately. Failure to do so will be interpreted as outright hostility.
Plus, the guy is running for Wisconsin Supreme Court. "Dear Wisconsin Judicial Candidate" is just rude.

One day, I was asked to key in some postcards from NRA supporters...and let me tell you....
The sentiments on those cards makes that letter up there look like Hallmark....
Open, hostile threats...."PROTECT OUR 2ND AMENDMENT OR ELSE" stuff like that....
It was bat shit crazy the things I read on those cards...

RE: Letter to judicial candidate, Tim Burns.
Scott, FUCK YOU and the fucking bloodthirsty organization that you draw your blood money salary from. Do humanity a favor - lube and slide the business end of an automatic up your "shithole" (yes, I understand that in your case it might not be easy to discern which end of your abdomen your shithole is located on) and - once inserted - actuate the trigger. The result will improve our collective gene pool AND give at least one good reason for your ilk to have a gun handy when your true worth to this planet finally dawns on you.
Disrespectfully,
PS: Your humanity rating scores a solid WTF?

(24,647 posts)I got early advice from previous candidates who told me I don't have to respond to every interest group who sends me a questionnaire...with the exception of the NRA. I absolutely HAD to answer that one.
My instinct tells me to trash the questionnaire and put out a public statement explaining why I am not dignifying them with a response and could not possibly care less what rating they may choose to give me. On the other hand, I have no problem owning the inevitable F rating like a boss either.
I completely agree this needs to turn on its head, and an A rating should be politically toxic.
My likely opponent, he's facing a primary but extremely likely to win, has 100% favorable with the NRA.

(36,078 posts)That sucks. Strange it's the ONLY questionnaire you were advised to fill out. Too bad pols haven't just thrown them out and taken their 'f'
Can you contact the student groups currently speaking out in FL? Can you make the DC march on March 24? Just wondering if there's ANY way you can let people know, as a candidate, you don't want or need a favorable rating from the NRA

(498 posts)The NRA and the drug companies should both be investigated in the same way that Trump-russia is being investigated.
They would be found at fault for thousands, maybe millions of deaths like the cigarette companies.
Then the people behind those companies need to be put on trial for murder.
At the very least, both industries are guilty of massive amounts of bribery.

I swear to uphold the laws of the state of Wisconsin,
I swear to uphold the Constitution of the state of Wisconsin
I swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.
Other than that it would be unethical and unprofessional to speculate on how I might rule on any particular case that might come before me.
Respectfully,

(11,032 posts)It didn't take long to find the Wisconsin Code of Judicial Conduct rule:
SCR 60.06(3)(b)
A judge, judge-elect, or candidate for judicial office shall not make or permit or authorize others to make on his or her behalf, with respect to cases, controversies, or issues that are likely to come before the court, pledges, promises, or commitments that are inconsistent with the impartial performance of the adjudicative duties of the office.
It would really suck to be running for a judicial office and have a judicial ethics complaint made against you.

(130 posts)If this candidate were to respond to the requested NRA questionnaire, that would be the perfect response...instead of receiving a "?" for a score, what might they give this candidate? Maybe a "huh? say what? Martha, this man's usin' some lawyer- soundin' stuff here!"
