Maryland jury awards $37 million to family of woman shot by police: report

(Reuters) - A Maryland jury has awarded more than $37 million in damages to the family of an armed black woman who was fatally shot by Baltimore County police in a 2016 standoff, the Baltimore Sun reported on Friday.

The jury found that the police officer’s first shot at Korryn Gaines, which killed her and wounded her son, Kodi, was unreasonable and that the mother and child’s civil rights were violated, the newspaper said.

Right now all people in the community have to do is say "thoughts and prays" and forget about it.

As soon as people start seeing their property taxes skyrocket to pay for the actions of these serial killers, it will finally force the police departments to put an end to it and stop hiring them.

gets tied up with appeals and, in the end, will the family receive anywhere close to 37 million dollars? Probably not. A judge will probably reduce the amount.

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

they’re reviewing their options, including the right to appeal. The plaintiffs will not be seeing any money anytime soon, if ever. It’s unfortunate!
