How one tweet inspired 120 people to shovel snow for the elderly in a Chicago neighborhood

By Gianluca Mezzofiore, CNN

"SNIP......

As a heavy snowstorm swept across the northern Midwest over the weekend, Cole started to get calls from seniors in the community who needed someone to shovel snow in front of their homes.

Some people had asthma conditions. Others had neuropathy in both wrists, and a few were carrying oxygen tanks. They were all overwhelmed and frightened to be stuck in their own house, according to Cole.

"After I received 30 calls I put the word out on social media that I needed help," he told CNN.

....

The next morning, 120 people showed up, the majority of them from outside Chatham. In just a few hours, his tweet gathered more than 22,000 retweets and 64,000 likes, inspiring people to take action.

.......SNIP"

3. Moral: "150 retweets with 500 'likes' is worth less than a person with a shovel"

4. Good for them. But the city doesn't give a shit about the South Side - it's a disgrace

Chicago only plows the rich areas of the city.

South of Roosevelt they just don't care about, while Lincoln Park is cleared early.

Chicago should get more state and federal dollars to keep their city running. Poor people are getting screwed. Our federal taxation system handicaps cities -- so cities should get more of the dollars their citizens pay in.

6. Maybe they are afraid to go into poorer areas because they think those areas have a lot of crime.

Is that possible?

I don't think it is that people don't care, but rather that people are afraid of poor areas in town.
