1. Question: If we can't or won't ensure the well being of our people,

what in the name of all that is merciful are we defending?

Yeah, that was a rhetorical. We're 'defending' the profit motive.

5. The one percent. If you read American history by Zinn, you will find the military

National guard and police have always been to protect the rich when the poor get fed up and strike back for their rights. They serve and protect the one percent.

2. The problem is that when we finally turn the tables and elect a democratic congress and President

The bill will come due and they will blame us.

Rinse and repeat...

10. It is ridiculous. When I hear the words

“redistribution” and “welfare state” I immediately think of the military, mainly in the sense of it being a federal program that funnels obscene amounts of money to defense contractors.

And on a related note, most of the people I know who oppose government-sponsored health insurance are retired military and love their free benefits from the VA.

9. Glad you posted

I didn't see anything for social programs on the chart portrayed above. Thought it was phony. Come on on folks, progressives are better than that!

8. Nice pie chart, but....................

"A social-media meme says that 57 percent of federal spending goes to the military and just 1 percent goes to food and agriculture, including food stamps. To get numbers that approximate this, the pie chart cherry-picks just discretionary spending. But that means the pie chart represents only about one-third of federal spending. Once you include the 60 percent of the budget that is mandatory spending, the military share plunges from 57 percent to 16 percent, and the categories that include Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid collectively account for a majority of federal spending.
We rate the claim False.

11. 28% of government spending is on healthcare?

Compare that to the UK that spends 18.8% on healthcare - universal healthcare, where nobody ever has to have insurance or pay a healthcare bill, and the people live two years longer than USA.

15. The absurdity of it all is that our Military is useless against modern threats.

The 2016 election proved it. Once the Russians hack our electrical grid (and they may have already - see what they have done in their proving ground, Ukraine) we will see how utterly useless our military is against foreign enemies.
