Fox News Question

So I'm probably going to get blown out of the water here, as my knack for causing controversy is well known but:

Trying to understand conservative propaganda, I asked myself this question "Do people develop their viewpoints by watching Fox News, or do people watch Fox News because of their pre-existing viewpoints?"

What is your opinion?

2. Both.

Fox contributes to the creation of cognitive bias via the bandwagon effect, and then that bias is continually reinforced.

4. I would say...

What I would call "baseline hate" and basic political leanings start at home. Faux then refines that over time molding viewers in a well sculpted ball of racism and right wing beliefs.

5. I think of it as a perpetual shit machine.

Fox News parrots the same talking points that are handed out to AM radio stations. So your average Fox News viewer listens to AM hate radio in his truck on his way to work. After hearing that for 8 hours, he comes home and listens to the same shit on Fox News. Then they go to church on Sunday. So think of it this way - bullshit begats bullshit begats bullshit.

10. Wish it would consume itself, then, and be done with it.

Rather consuming all the rest of us.

7. The beliefs are there first, from family, environment, friends.

Faux news only reinforces what they believe and fleshes out what they don't otherwise understand about their positions, all the while stroking their egos and telling them they could not possibly be wrong. They don't watch faux to become more informed, they watch faux because faux agrees with them.

8. People go where they're comfortable.

I've never watched Fox news. What does that say about me ?

Kinda funny 'cause at this moment in time , I have zero trust in any broadcast news.

9. I think they seek out Fox News for confirmation of their pre-existing beliefs.

Once they are into that ecosystem, though, they are pretty much locked-in.

And, being a liberal, I constantly question whether I have managed to lock myself into a similar, although mirror-imaged, bubble of my own. I try for that not to be the case. I do seek out thoughtful opinion pieces from people on the right. But I've had a really hard time finding any that aren't purposely misleading and intellectually dishonest.

11. Imagine Fox Viewers As Babies That Rely On Mothers Milk....

...And Rely On Their Mom ( Fox News ) To Feed Them
For The Rest Of Their Lives, Otherwise They Will Die, And
Told That Safeway's 2% Milk Will Kill Them- It's Like That.

14. People seek what they want to hear.

Result = competing 24/7 “news” channels that love the conflict.

15. Here is the trick:

You say something one time and that is what you believe (at least for the time being)
Fox says something over and over, day and night, 24/7. And THAT is what millions believe and will keep believing.

16. anyone with critical thinking skills can detect that Fox News is utter garbage very quickly

I suspect some portion of Faux News fans know it is garbage but because they are racist / sexist / homophobic / xenophobic / gun humping cowards, etc, they approve of the message
