Interstate Highway Become Toll Roads Under Trump's Plan?

At least that is what he seems to be proposing. So if you go from New York to LA you would face toll roads all the way across US. In fact our entire interstate system would become a toll system. Except that foreign corporations would be able to buy in.

9. South Florida has plenty of toll booths, too.

They will happily snap a picture of your vehicle as you pass through the toll booth and send the bill to you in the mail. I got one of those bills but the only problem was it was not me, not my car. I was nowhere near that part of Florida. The photo of the car was so bad that the only thing you could tell was that it was a convertible. Add to that, the tag # actually matched our camper that had been parked in storage during the time of the charge.

The only thing we could figure was that the tag number might have been manually entered or was misread due to a lousy photo. I tried calling the number in Tallahassee to explain that it was an error, but the wait on hold was never ending. I finally gave up and sent them the $6.80 just to stop the madness. By the way, the amount of the toll was only about $2.50. The rest of the fee was a charge by the private company collecting the toll.

8. Retrofitting for tolls would be a nightmare!

Especially in urban areas.

I'm not against toll road per se. Roads need to be paid for. I can see this working in rural areas, but they may not get enough traffic to be cost effective.

Most toll roads were toll roads from the beginning.

12. No. That was very different from Trump's proposal.

Obama was trying to jog money out of congress, which was refusing to adequately fund very needed repairs, and was offering a temporary alternative in part financed by corporate tax reforms. And note the opinion piece's objection was "would open door to,"

Trump's proposal would rip the doors and frames off and build a giant trumpster bonfire with them. It's one of those amazingly clueless and destructive things being pushed by anti-government extremists and profiteers. The economic burden, which would fall heavily on business if that wasn't "fixed," would inevitably be shifted to "small" private drivers, who'd stop driving them, cutting road tourism and increasing wear on secondary roads maintained by states, etc, etc, etc.

It'd be oppressive on the people in so many ways, and I'm not at all sure that isn't also in the minds of some of those pushing this at Trump. Everything they're trying to do de-powers us in some way, this one in many.
