Brits mock the hell out of Mittens over "Anglo-Saxon" remarks. Do shut the hell up like a good chap
by MinistryOfTruth

Want to be more like the Anglo-Saxons?

1. Stop destroying the English Language with Bushisms and Palinspeak

Its greatest threat these days is probably the former Republican president's "Bushisms".

2. You should be for MORE immigration, not less

It was sixth century British monk Gildas who saw the coming of the Anglo-Saxons as God's punishment for the sins of the Britons – an apocalyptic view that would be right at home in the delusional wing of the Republican party, and proof that the basic British distrust of foreigners was alive and well long before the barbarians invaded. If the Anglo-Saxons taught us anything, it is surely that we are all foreigners in our own country. Perhaps the Republicans can draw some inspiration from that.

3. Time to bow down to Royalty like a good peasant

One notes that the same servility to rulers applies to our Anglo-Saxon cousins across the water and that, no matter what their political hue, monarchs are accorded the respect due in the office of president.

4. And finally, Stop worrying and learn to love the French

In 1066, Britain's mongrel nation status became complete, having been officially invaded by the Romans, the Angles and Saxons, the Jutes from Denmark, the Vikings and finally by the Normans who, critically, stopped Anglo-Saxon culture in its tracks. Twenty years after the invasion, the Anglo-Saxon nobility were in exile, or consigned to the peasantry, with only 8% of England under their control. The myth of Anglo-Saxon roots that Romney wants to perpetrate denies the enormous contribution to British culture by, essentially, the French. Without the Norman invasion of Anglo-Saxon England, our language and culture would obviously be very different – Mitt Romney would be wise not to cast us all back into the Dark Ages.

Mittens doesn't give a shit about the UK or any of the longstanding diplomatic ties, diplomacy is for sissies.

Mittens wants everybody to know that the GOP is now the white man's party (like there was ever any doubt) and that they will be dedicated to preserving the heritage of the <s>Master Race</s> Anglo Saxons who, after all, founded the country (if you ignore the German majority and all the native people who got here first).

Methinks he taketh too much! I didn't know what this meant though I've always heard the term. So they've been ripping off Cornwall for a long time. Go rip off Wales! Now I'm curious about the history of all this, time for more googling.

--

The Duchy of Cornwall is a private estate which funds the public, charitable and private activities of The Prince of Wales and his family. The Duchy consists of around 53,408 hectares of land in 23 counties, mostly in the South West of England.

The Duchy estate was created in 1337 by Edward III for his son and heir, Prince Edward, and its primary function was to provide him and future Princes of Wales with an income from its assets. A charter ruled that each future Duke of Cornwall would be the eldest surviving son of the Monarch and the heir to the throne.

The current Duke of Cornwall, HRH The Prince of Wales, is actively involved in running the Duchy and his philosophy is to improve the estate and pass it on to future Dukes in a stronger and better condition.

I learned about my ancestors when I saw a Celtic Cross in Cornwall that was slashed with an Anglican Church cross. My family being subversive got me all agitated about how "they" came and repressed us! The original Britons. But of course we came from elsewhere as well and landed all over Europe. Later I discovered the Celts were .. a bit primitive.. sat on the floor to eat and didn't use utensils! So they were a bit less developed than those Anglo Saxons but really they were much more creative and tied to the earth, female diety worshippers and all.

The celts defeated the etruscans and the romans (once). They believed more in not sacking (especially the farmers)and pillaging; but rather, demanding tribute. One battle I read about against the romans, they put their best warrior against the roman's best warrior; the winner would declare victory. The roman lost; however, the romans weren't very good at keeping their word; they attacked after the match.

Now letters to caesar from a roman senator show that the senator attempted to persuade caesar to make a trade treaty with the celts because of their fine weaving (especially a form of coat) and their excellent metallurgy skills. It doesn't sound like a bunch of barbarians sitting on the floor in their bear rug capes.

The celts also had a thing about cleanliness. A great insult was to tell someone their nails were dirty, and the women wore makeup and took important positions(which the romans were appalled). An ambassador to rome at one time was a woman. history is written by the conquerers; too bad the romans (who were great at using other peoples' ideas) implemented the grappling hook. I read that the use of the grappling hook help bring down the celts at sea.

Also, the celts valued music, art and gave tribute to those who were talented.

the anglo-saxons are from the germanic tribes who burned alive their enemies, as well as, their own people. Even Caesar was appalled by their actions.

The Celtics are a basketball team from Boston. Few of them are Celts.

Yes, people who are often described as Celts (although probably erroneously, it turns out) still form the majority or large minorities in Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and I'm sure Mitt's comment was a resounding success with them, great Anglo-Saxon lovers that they are.

The fact that only one small tribe in southern Gaul actually called themselves Celts, plus a mountain of DNA and linguistic evidence, has led to the new view that 'Celt' is more an 18th century invention than a historical people, culture, or even language.

Add to that that there's zero archaeological or genetic evidence that this 'Angle-Saxon Invasion of Britain' ever happened, and it's entirely possible virtually nothing we thought we knew about sub-Roman Britain is actually correct.

But then I'm sliding off topic here...

At a guess, Anglo Saxon isn't racist per se for the average Brit.

But for an American, I suggest it's different.

Although Romney is a mormon, you can see that Romney is making the unsubtle racist bid of saying I'm white, you're white, and I'm therefore sure that our relationship will be better than the one you have with Obama. He's a prize is old Mitt ain't he?

Less government = less corporate intrusion. We the people not so much, more government intrusion for us.

Contract for America = Contract ON America.

As a Nation 'We the People' lost more of our Bill of Rights under this so called contract. 4th amendment was the first to go back then all those years ago. 1st amendment was next with all those free speech zones, however the religious zealots scream about their religious freedoms being stamped out when nothing from the such is happening.

But DO NOT trample upon the 2nd amendment or they will go ballistic!

Legally, there is no separation between Church and State. In practice, it is separate. I like to think Britain is mindful of the fact that there are people with different religious beliefs - even within Christianity - and that the lessons over the last few hundred years taught us that tolerance is the only way to go. Some people do forget though.

Is that the English are perhaps the most mixed group in all Europe. England was where a bunch of Celts, Vikings, Romans, Germans, and others found themselves, and were forced to make a language. That language has come into use because it is the one that is roughly half Latin and half German, giving the other nations a halfway point. In short, it is because they are a mix of cultures that they have been successful.

Not simply that if Romney did well in the UK, the media would say how Romney was "presidential" and ready to rule the free world.

Not simply that Romney can lie about what he said and did not say,

No

The horror is, like the people that vote for him, facts do not matter. Money is used to drown everything, including and especially the facts.

I understand that many on the left are angry with Obama, but I will say this, if Mitt gets the crown, we will see new lows we never before imagined.
