WaPo Opinion: To stay in power, the GOP will let the Russians interfere

https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=600

The Feb. 7 editorial “Speak up, Mr. Speaker” ended with this paragraph: “As always, it’s difficult — but important — to remember what is at stake. A foreign power interfered with an American election. Rather than help defend the country against future interference, the president is slandering the nation’s law enforcement and intelligent agencies. Mr. Ryan can abet the slander, or he can help defend the country.” It is most important to remember that this “foreign power” is a very hostile one; namely, Russia under Vladimir Putin. Unfortunately, President Trump is clearly Mr. Putin’s puppet, gushing over him whenever he gets the opportunity. And House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) is enabling the Russian puppet master. Mr. Ryan’s unpatriotic actions (turning a blind eye to Mr. Putin) and his cowardly subservience to Mr. Trump make him unworthy to serve as speaker.

Why haven’t the Republicans done anything to prevent Russian interference in the 2018 midterm elections? The answer is simple: Republicans know they are in trouble, and they want Russia to interfere so that they can keep their majorities in both houses.

Joe Mistrett, Chevy Chase

And who said they didn't vote for Trump.
It's amazing how these GOP'rs don't give a damn about their own country.
If we make it through this, I say bring the GOP down all the way. Destroy the party. They are no longer a part of the U.S. system.

How outraged would the repukes be if I'm 2018 races in safe and solid red Mississippi went 90-10 for the Dems?

I bet they'd scream for investigations then. Go for it Putin.

You cannot negate calls of Ratfuckery simply because your team was the benefactor of said foul play, but they will until it bites them in the ass.

already working with Putin and has likely been doing so since Putin suggested that together they could bring down the West during the 2008 financial crisis. It seems to be a coordinated pincer movement around the neoliberal edifice designed to contain China and undermine Russian power.

26. It will never happen.

Putin requires a criminal oligarch who has autocratic, racist, and fasicst tendencies, with no regard for the truth and who is totally ignorant that he is being played to destroy our country and help russia. Where are they going to find a Dem like that? They already have a totally subservient and blackmailed congress with both of the 2 top people implicated in taking pay for play and Dems are against them.

No way they will ever help the Dems when they've already installed a repug congress and so called president that is actively abetting the destruction of our country.

It really is shocking. I've had plenty of disagreements with various presidents and congress critters over time. But this is the first time in my life that I've had the feeling that the White House and party in power really are enemies of our country, and that they pose, along with their supporters, more of a danger to our democracy's future than any external threat.

We have GOT somehow to turn this around.

11. Ryan has known about Russian/Trump/GOP ties from 2016 ... Ryan, "Families keep secrets"

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/paul-ryan-keeps-it-family-kevin-mccarthy-russia-trump

Paul Ryan Keeps It All in the Family

In the transcript published by the Post, McCarthy speculates that the Russians hacked the Democratic National Committee’s computers and, in the process, discovered whatever opposition-research materials the Democrats had gathered on Trump.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy said, according to Entous, a superb reporter who heard a tape recording of the colloquy. “Swear to God.”

Dana Rohrabacher is a Republican from California with a peculiar amalgam of views: pro-marijuana, dubious about climate change, pro-torture. For this last position, in 2007, Keith Olbermann awarded him his periodic “Worst Person in the World” award, on his old MSNBC show. Like Trump, Rohrabacher has been highly solicitous of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last year, Politico ran an article on Rohrabacher called “Putin’s Favorite Congressman.”

In the Post piece, McCarthy’s remark is met with laughter, and Ryan cautions his colleagues, “This is an off the record . . . No leaks! . . All right?”

And then, amid more laughter, Ryan says, “This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

13. Newsweek: MIKE PENCE COULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT AND HE WAS HANDPICKED BY PAUL MANAFORT

It is wider and deeper than we really know.

**********

http://www.newsweek.com/mike-pence-was-handpicked-paul-manafort-696412

Russia is way deep into the Republican party.

Before Trump formally announced Pence as his vice presidential candidate, it was Manafort who made sure it happened, The New York Times reported last year.

Trump had hesitated to settle on Pence, who was governor of Indiana. Trump was fielding last-ditch appeals from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and publicly said he had not made a “final, final decision” until advisers like Manafort reminded him of the importance of uniting the GOP around conservative Christian values.

CBS News reported that Pence was Manafort's "first choice" and that Manafort even lied about mechanical problems on Trump's plane to make the soon-to-be GOP nominee stay an extra day in Indiana to get to know Pence. In a phone call, Manafort assured Trump that Pence was the right choice and made a case that won over the real estate tycoon.

Manafort would later downplay his behind-the-scenes choice, telling the Times that Trump never seriously doubted Pence.

Flynn, Kushner, Trump Jr, Page, Sessions, Pence, Manafort, Ivanka, and so on.
People were picked to be in Trump's government not in spite of their links
to Russia but because of their links to Russia.

It looks to me that Trump is trying to tear down the United States from the
inside because that is what his boss, Putin wants.

... then the Democratic Party must make public any such entreaties and reject them forcibly, then demand that Republicans do likewise. The USA is not a Russian province or buffer state. I say the Democrats begin posting little animated "safety" calendars all over the web, paid or for free, saying (example) "It's Been 443 Days Since Republicans Started Cooperating With Putin." Or something like that.

Now Russia is one of them; completely recognizable to any Republican pol.

Republicans proudly suppress the vote by gerrymandering, strict voter ID laws, purging voter rolls, reducing polling places and hours, screaming "voter fraud" where none exists, along with any other nefarious scheme they can concoct to cheat, and win elections. It's entirely in keeping with their past behavior and even as we speak, they are, no doubt, covertly assisting Russian interference in every way possible to continue to rig our elections.

48. The Russians had to have been horrified at the elctions of 2008 and 2012

Simple vote counting fraud and dumping of Democratic voter registrations by a few O'Keefe-clone sleazeballs weren't going to stem the tide against their Republican pals.

Putin is Stalin's political heir. "Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything." Or, if you prefer the modern Republican version, take it straight from their mouth:

"It's all over but the counting. And we'll take care of the counting." 2004. And so they did. And so they did again in 2016. And so they will try yet again in 2018 and 2020. Republicans can count as well as we can, and they know what they need to do to win. Their campaign message sucks. They need other tactics if they are to hold on to Congress. They will use them, and they are not picky about who helps them.

They're excusing Benedict Donald's most despicable actions and behavior is because they know their days as a political powerhouse in this country are numbered. They know that demographics are against them and they'll be reduced to a marginalized, regional party unless they destroy our burgeoning multi-racial democracy NOW and replace it with Soviet-style authoritarianism. There's no other explanation for the rampant gerrymandering and voter suppression legislation popping up in red states like toadstools in horseshit after a rainstorm. They're attempting to destroy everything that has made America unique.

of what the the article claims (that Rs will let Russians interfere to say in power) for it to be published as anything other than an opinion piece;. But WE know it to be factual. And there will come a time when there will be enough hard evidence. Pretty sure Mueller probably already has it.

He needs to replace it with his master's Russian flag.

68. How is Trump's approval rating hitting 40% these days?

Are people this blind?

Think about it? The guy is such a coward and so blatantly biased. He wouldn't even release the dem memo but rushed to release the republican one.

He's the epitome of a cartoon president.

That makes wonder how successful these Russians are? It makes me worry...
