ICE Agents Have College Degrees, a Prerequisite for Hiring
This surprised me, quite frankly. I guessed former Police Academy or military training to be sufficient.
Well, coupled with a college degree for most young grads are student loans. ICE is probably a less dangerous Option than police and military duty. Starting Income $41k - $61k depending on experience. http://www.careerprofiles.info/immigration-enforcement-agent-salary.html ALSO: Must speak Spanish. No job security promised. Desperate people do desperate things. Like rip families apart. http://www.careerprofiles.info/ero-agents.html Could you sleep at night after a days work breaking up families?

17. No, NOT desperate. I won't claim they're all hateful thugs,
but way too many have to be. More specifically, does anyone doubt that a significant number drawn to this work are the type of conservative who both are hostile to "outsiders" and will just follow orders, including ones that only hateful thugs would?
I have some sympathy for those who are invested in a career that would require significant sacrifice to abandon, but not much. I've sacrificed economic wellbeing before, for other reasons, and I would not work in ICE under this administration. A scholar who's studied evil and movements that become evil for 40 years offered a simple guideline for people to identify them, probably not verbatim but close to: Watch out for mean people. |

4. So? I am under the impression that lots of police academies
require a college degree.
More to the point, once people are inside an organization, any organization, they tend to conform to that organization's norms. I bet a lot of men who joined the Gestapo early on were pretty decent people. But once a member of the Gestapo, they changed. Here's a better example. People in the military are told (so I've heard) that they are not to obey an illegal order. But this is in the context of being told and trained to obey all orders unquestioningly. Which is exactly why the excesses occurred that we know about at Guantanamo. Obeying orders took precedence over not obeying an illegal order. More to the point, the soldiers there had no way of judging if an order was illegal. Must speak Spanish is interesting. You'd think that would pull in a lot of applicants whose parents or at best grandparents came here from a Spanish speaking country. Most Americans who grew up speaking only English never get fluent in any other language. I'd hope that ICE agents would become totally subversive. |

7. The majority of ICE agents in Texas are Mexican-American
My daughter's ex was thinking of working for them. He's originally from Mexico and minored in Spanish. He lied in a job interview about using Adderall. (It wasn't prescribed to him and he used it several times to study in college)
He ended up joining the Marines instead, their requirements weren't as stringent. |

At best.
We are the only country that has such a naive faith in them. |

Glad he joined the Marines. He got another girl pregnant, called my daughter and bragged about. Got married and started calling my daughter late at night.

19. Yep.
Got a friend who works next door in the New Mexico sector. Same there. Most are Latino, some are actually immigrants themselves or have family who are immigrants. He says the most aggressive ICE agents he knows are first gen Americans(their parents were immigrants).

6. Do they sleep at night after a day of ripping families asunder? . . .
Possibly . . .
The Hangman at Home by Carl Sandburg WHAT does the hangman think about When he goes home at night from work? When he sits down with his wife and Children for a cup of coffee and a Plate of ham and eggs, do they ask Him if it was a good day's work And everything went well or do they Stay off some topics and talk about The weather, base ball, politics And the comic strips in the papers And the movies? Do they look at his Hands when he reaches for the coffee Or the ham and eggs? If the little Ones say, Daddy, play horse, here's A rope –- does he answer like a joke: I seen enough rope for today? Or does his face light up like a Bonfire of joy and does he say: It's a good and dandy world we live In. And if a white face moon looks In through a window where a baby girl Sleeps and the moon gleams mix with Baby ears and baby hair -- the hangman -- How does he act then? It must be easy For him. Anything is easy for a hangman, I guess. |

20. Back before Trump ..
I'm not sure, but ICE may have been different before.
I personally agree with deporting drug dealers. I think i would agree with deporting anyone involved in the sex slavery issue if they weren't citizens. Yes, they may have children but they make choices. I support people working legit jobs, but not criminals. Maybe I'm sheltered by living far from the border, but I never heard about ICE doing anything towards actively rounding people up till Trump came along. Now it is everywhere.. Those people needed jobs to support their families too. Maybe they signed on expecting to deal mainly with paperwork and criminal cases. |
