The "deal": Not terrific, but could be worse. Taking CHIP off the table is not nothing

Think of this has a hostage negotiation. There were two hostages, CHIP and DACA. One hostage is now freed.

We haven't WON. But we are in a slightly better negotiating position than we were 24 hours ago.

Of course McConnell will renege somehow on the DACA vote. And DACA's chances in the House were always slim.
But we have two weeks to make our political case on this.

When you are negotiating with terrorists it's difficult to know when and where to give.

As I noted above, I'm certain they will go back on DACA...McConnell has already demonstrated that he is a bad faith actor. But we won't have any less leverage there in two weeks than we do right now.

Really we have to win the political battle on DACA. I honestly don't think we get anything permanent done until we have Democratic majorities again.

If after 3 weeks and the repugs renig on their promise, or only come up...with odious terms, we go out

again and be in a possibly even stronger position as the repugs will be shown to again have no ability

to govern despite controlling all 3 branches of government.
