Does anyone know anything about "NukeMap"

on line map of your own city and what would happened if it was hit by a missile? Out of curiosity I looked it up and have no idea about "kilatons" and bomb lingo. I plan on "ducking and covering" since it was proven to be such a successful and effective method to stay safe during the Cold War

150 kilotons on top of Denver won't reach me! No need to duck and cover!

Unless Li'l Kim can't aim.

Well, there's always my computer desk to crawl under. Will a blanket over my head help?

I had a friend in grad school who told me the story of his grandfather in Nagasaki. His grandfather and a friend were playing chess at the kitchen table. The bomb detonated. The friend disappeared, but the grandfather was protected by the refrigerator.

It had a 150 kiloton bomb that is supposedly NK's largest yield. According to the map, I would miss the majority of the destructive force because I live about 20 miles away. I was being sarcastic about Kim's accuracy because, let's face it, it's not like survivors 20 miles away get off scot free. That was just my dark humor in light of the ineffectiveness of duck and cover.

and if I pulled the shelves out I would be able to fit inside with my little dog too (I am 5'1" and she is 7 pounds). I think that breathing would become a problem however. Oh well, I'll drink a lot of whiskey very quickly instead.

It sounded like the fridge was between him and the blast, while his friend was exposed (maybe by a window?). It always struck me, though, that my buddy in grad school was not very far removed from the atrocity of nuclear war. His parents (maybe even his grandad) had told him that story at the same age as I was when I had to do the duck and cover drills in school.

On the other hand, cleaning out the refrigerator is never a bad idea. There might be a chocolate cake you forgot about hiding in the back!

Live next to an important military installation.

Oddly, I find this a relief as I don't want to live in post apocalyptic America.
