Oprah's best friend fuels 2020 run talk
Yesterday we were told on here by some that there was nothing to this topic and that Oprah has "repeatedly" denied it, as has her best friend, Gayle King. In several threads we were told that people were making too much of it, and at least one poster implied racism behind those who questioned her validity as a candidate.
Well King is fueling these rumors, and CNN has more reporting today that she is considering the idea. http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/09/media/gayle-king-oprah-winfrey-president/index.html

1. Their whole argument is based off the idea.....
Of a multi-billionaire actually not shitting on her friends as they tell her how great she is. That is the cornerstone of the case they are putting forward.
I really wish people could step back and actually analyze how these outlets promote things. |

2. Do I want Oprah to run?
No
Do I want her friends to keep pushing these rumors? Hell yeah! Get the enthusiasm going big time. Then put all her support behind a qualified D! Get Oprah speaking out for 2018 candidates. Use this for all it's worth. Just don't let Oprah let it be anything but speculation for now. |

4. So you are saying just use her but don't give her a meaningful seat at the table?
Why?

7. Helping to elect representation that fits her ideas is getting a seat at the table.
It's how a representative republic works. What you just attempted to do to the other poster is really shitty.

10. But what if she wants to run herself?
She would be a strong and very electable candidate. In her own right.
Why not? |

13. Really poor form the manner in which you replied to the other poster.
"What if"
"Would be" "Why not" I get that her speech floored you. |

17. And you calling me shitty is not poor form? give me a break!
I think Oprah should be taken seriously as a potential candidate. I have seen no compelling reason for her not to run. Not just assume we can use her enthusiasm for someone else.

3. Oprah appeals to blacks, women, and young voters...
...three demographics whose turnout would be needed to defeat Trump
She also has a positive attitude which Trump would find hard to attack....probably backfire. What name could he call Oprah? |

8. That's what I am waiting to see.
Will he use his name calling tactics on Oprah and can he deal with the backlash to that?

23. You want specifics?
For one, Trump...specifically.....said at one time he would consider naming her his running mate (previous election).
Trump has been successful at trying to define his opponents. He uses those well-thought-out names for this purpose. Low Energy Bush. etc etc etc. In the primaries, he was up against people without that much name recognition, so he was able to define them. Against Hillary, there already were strong memes about her that were out there, and he capitalzed on them, Crooked Hillary, etc. Oprah has more name recognition than Trump had when he was running. Heck, she was/is more of a media star than he ever was. He won't be able to define Oprah in the same way he could other opponents. Plus which people love Oprah. She has a tremendous amount of empathy with her guests, and this is in stark contrast to Trump's narcissism. She has been underestimated every step of the way in her career. I wouldn't count her out this time around. I think she could beat Trump soundly. I don't think it would be even close. Then the joy would be seeing Trump explode after being beaten soundly by a black woman.... The only thing better would be for Michelle Obama to run and beat him! She would have to be drafted for the job, but I would help with the draft!!! Dream ticket: Oprah/Kennedy or Oprah/Michelle or Michelle/Oprah |
