Republicans, fearing midterm disaster, seek course correction

A growing number of Republicans say a course correction is needed to prevent their party from losing the House, Senate or both given strong political headwinds that one veteran lawmaker likened to a “hurricane.”

GOP calls to work more with Democrats next year are becoming more common as Republicans look for ways to win over swing voters.

“One thing you can say about this year is that it was pretty partisan,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters on Friday at a year-end press conference.

“We’re going to be looking for areas of bipartisan agreement because that’s the way the Senate is.”

They would need to reverse ALL of the 2017 damage inflicted on us as well as reinstate Obama's laws and protections THEN call us -- otherwise go take a flying leap.

I've been disappointed too many times the last few years. So right now, I believe our chances of winning control of both the House and Senate are very slim.

it's easy for those of us who pay attention all the time to see right through this.

it's obviously a partisan republican tactic to suddenly try to appear bipartisan and reasonable in an election year after taking hyper-partisanship and unreasonableness to a whole new level.

this is the guy who refused to even hold a hearing for obama's supreme court nominee.

this is the guy who went nuclear on supreme court nominees to ram through gorsuch, bypassing a democratic filibuster.

this is the guy who cut out any participation of democrats, using reconcilation rules and closed-door meetings, for the most horrid tax heist in history.

that said, the average voter is more easily swayed by the latest narrative of the m$m, and if they're all talking about bipartisanship during election season, and/or democratic obstructionism, that could very well help republicans.

it's easy to laugh at this and/or be disgusted, but we have to take this tactic seriously.

"We'd like to extend a hand to the Democrats and invite them over..."

"After we've been absolute assholes and shut you out and done everything we want, we think we ought to work in a bipartisan manner."

They just want to frame the Democrats as "the party of no" how they did it while Obama was president. His base will think this anyway.

Please proceed, Mitch! Show us how your side does "bipartisan". Don't tell Mike Pence, though, he probably won't like the sound of that.
