Barron Trump declines to be RNC delegate because of 'prior commitments'

Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Trump, has declined the offer to serve as a delegate for Florida at this summers Republican National Convention (RNC).
While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments, former first lady Melania Trumps office said in a statement.
The Florida GOP earlier this week said Barron Trump, who is 18, would join three of the former presidents other children Eric, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr. as delegates, with Eric Trump serving as the states delegation chair.

I have to wonder if Melania had something to do with his dropping out???

Maybe becoming political fodder just isn't in his comfort zone.

(16,316 posts)Cell phone plans and other adult issues. Its sad that we dont let kids grow up on their own. The results of this are not good.
I know youre referring to trump, but Im keeping my kids on my health insurance as long as legally possible, or till they get jobs that provide it. Are you suggesting parents take their 18 year old children off of their medical insurance? Im also paying for their cell phones till they graduate college. Its certainly gives me comfort to know I can get in touch with them. and they can call for assistance if needed.
jimfields33
(16,316 posts)Then they are really screwed. Its best to let them make it on their own. I got my last 20 from my parents at 18. We did the same. Its better for them.
Cost of health care is crippling people. Ill keep my kids on my plan as long as possible/needed. An 18 year in college is still a kid. I plan on helping my kids. They work their butts off for good grades and have worked part time jobs since 14. They understand the value of hard work and I understand the crippling effects of debt.

Melania may not care about much either but it's at least a point in her favor she does love her son.

EDITED TO ADD: The pic in that tweet was taken at the funeral of Melania's mother. Those aren't "cold, dead" eyes, just sad ones. He was mourning the loss of his grandmother, who I believe he was very close to.
He has sad/bored eyes. Annoyed with his pig of a father...

(25 posts)attacking a dictator-wannabe's family is considered appropriate. I am saddened by Barron being used by his nasty orange spermdonor more than that he is in the crosshairs of election politics. I actually believe that this is all for the best. Barron needs to be an independent person, it is good that he is being targeted so he can understand what his father has done to America. TYT did not call him names, did not get anywhere near the famous palsy joke on a journalist...there seem to be many more ways to be mean, but letting Barron and his mom realize that THEY ARE ALL FAIR GAME helps balance the field.
I also wish to add that if Barron chose this, then he may have needed his mom to help him. Melania is formidable parent and she may be doing all she can to keep him from the clutches of political ignominy and dRumpfian disgrace. Barron will be fine.
intheflow
(28,534 posts)At least in terms of politics. If you can vote, work anywhere, and be a delegate for Evil, you are fair game.

(1,142 posts)for him to be himself. I'm sure he needed Melania to intervene for him to even have a choice about this.
Or maybe he has no choices, just a pawn between mom, dad, and the RNC.
Both Melania and Barron are probably praying for Dad to lose so they don't have to pretend to sign on to everything Donald does.
I'm not saying I would like these two if I knew them personally, but I have sympathy for the prison they find themselves in, not of their own making, or at least on Melania's part a deal with the devil which she realized too late.

Seriously, national delegates don't normally become political fodder. He probably thought it would be a cool thing until it wasn't.

(7,138 posts)Sad and morose, like his mother. I feel bad for him. His father seems to have nothing at all to do with him - which is probably a good thing given that his father's a sociopath. If he does have a "developmental issue" (I heard he has Aspergers) that would explain why Trump keeps his distance from him, because Trump as we all know can't tolerate anyone in his family being less than the perfect Trumpian 1950s-era masculine or feminine ideal. Daddy dearest would probably blow a gasket if Barron got so much as a pimple.
I hope Barron gets to live a normal young adult life, independent of his parents, carving out his own path and forging his own relationships. Is he going to college, does anyone know?
