Depending on how long you've been waiting, your gait and alignment has been affected making up for the bad knee(s). A year after my second knee was completed, I am still feeling pain and stiffness on that side as I'm working the muscles to adapt to the new knee. Still doing my therapy exercises. The other knee (done 6 months prior) wasn't as bad, and I'm almost back to the way I was 20 years ago, with just a bit of stiffness in the morning.
Be sure to start sleeping with a pillow between your knees. After the surgery, that's going to be helpful.
Good luck.
