As a woman, if you were alone in the woods, which would you rather run into, a man or a bear?

Apparently, a large majority of women said a bear and about a bazillion men got their panties in a twist.

Reminded of my 9th grade Social Studies class, that teacher taught us about the Civil Rights movement and a lot of it stuck with me.

That we've made so little progress since. I grew up in a fairly diverse city, had classmates and teachers from numerous backgrounds, so what I learned was shocking to me - especially when I watched "Eyes on the Prize" when that came out. And it appears that we're going backwards.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
