... sometime mushroom add too much moisture. Maybe in this case mushrooms in the filling might be a bridge too far?

Mushrooms need longer cooking than other foods. So for a casserole they get precooked before going into sauce. Filling depends on what else is in filling. You can also put some across top as a decoration too. I like pasta oven dishes as long as they are moist.

I usually sautee mushrooms before putting them in the body of the lasagna (or on pizza) since they seem to throw off a lot of liquid as they cook.
