Interesting article on Ravelry in The New Yorker

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/03/29/how-politics-tested-ravelry-and-the-crafting-community

Some of it is informative, some glosses over the bad behavior of right wingers (doxxing people, death threats, the usual for them) while magnifying other controversies on the site, but it's a decent read for those of us who use the site for patterns and problem solving.

I knew Deplorable was back, there is a disagree on every post I make, even on the kitty threads.

the original “Be excellent to each other.”

I use Rav to keep track of projects, patterns and stash. I bailed on the social media aspect of it years ago. I rarely even leave a comment on a pattern.

but I've had a lot of "wow, I never knew that" moments in the fiber oriented groups.

For the record, I'm a weaver, dyer, spinner, knitter, or was before my eyes went to hell.

I’m a knitter, bobbin lace maker, crocheter, needlepointer, and counted cross stitcher, kinda in that order. I’ve dabbled in drop spindle spinning but never got serious about it. I’d rather knit than make the yarn.

of the members very helpful. I was initially surprised to find a contingent of really negative people (not Trump related as I joined way after that) but I guess it's to be expected in any social space.
