Opinion: Evangelicals See Trump's Hedonism as Godly 'Masculinity'

Opinion: Evangelicals See Trump’s Hedonism as Godly ‘Masculinity’

For years now, many Christians have sought to justify supporting Trump using various rationalizations, including comparing him to King David, a flawed man who committed serious transgressions yet was used mightily by God.

Never mind that Trump never repented for his sins or even sought to change his ways; the gist was that God can use flawed vessels to accomplish His plans.

Interestingly, though, this argument seems to have morphed (in some quarters, at least) into a more sinister theory: that sexual sin isn’t just a stumbling block that can be overcome, it is proof of a man’s masculinity and even worthiness to be used by God.

At least, that was my takeaway from a recent Politico interview with Samuel L. Perry, a sociologist of religion and author of the book Addicted to Lust: Pornography in the Lives of Conservative Protestants. He contends that many evangelicals see Trump as a “representative of a kind of masculinity that is so masculine that his sexual appetites cannot be contained. That’s almost a good sign,” Parry says.

“In other words,” Perry continues, “[Trump is] not Mike Pence—a kind of asexual, Ned Flanders kind of Christian that is effete and ineffective. No, Trump is power personified. He is a warrior. And with that comes all of the temptations of being a warrior.”

into the craziest positions. “So masculine his sexual appetites cannot be contained.” That sounds like an animal.

Apparently, "Godly Masculinity" indicates a lack of "Godly Willpower" to avoid naughty ladies, lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, bearing false witness, and other assorted sins.

Yes they hold Stormy to snow driven purity which they obviously abhor because women are weak.

Faith is a very dangerous problem (all of a sudden) in our country. It's like when Japan bombed Pearl harbor, if Americans acted on faith alone, where the fuck would we be today? WTF? People gotta wake the fuck up!!

affair with Bathsheba and David confessed his sin and repented.

So until one of them screws up the courage to confront King Donald over his sins and he confesses and repents, they need to STFU up about him being King David.

He was king. She was a subject. Such an imbalance of power...would she have even been able to say no??? All he'd have to do is look at her and say, "I want that" and she'd be served up before him on a silver platter.

I’m just saying even for those who accept the Bible story as it is presented, Donald Trump falls far, far short of the standard to be called a man after God’s own heart. Yet another example of their shameless hypocrisy.

...it also shows dramatically how millions of our fellow countrymen have develop a tolerance and acceptance of fascism...

...this does not bode well for our future together...

...it's difficult to go in two different directions at the same time...

...another example of our nation's decline...

8. evangelicals do not believe in any defined "God"

to evangelicals "God" is whatever God needs to be to satisfy their own personal beliefs. Like that Trump is racists? Want him to be president? Then God also likes that Trump is racist, and wants him to president because.... reasons. Evangelicalism is not a code of believes to govern your own life, it is a list of personal desires that define your code of belief.

Their version of the Bible contains an 11th commandment (Thou must never speak ill of the Son of Fred) and an 8th deadly sin (Antitrumpism).

Any who subscribe to this sick rewrite are, IMO, the sickest of the sick, and will spend most of eternity at the business end of satan's ass. And my guess is every bit as valid as theirs.
