a little , shall we say "different."
Although Pecker was praised many times almost universally as a truth teller and someone the jury would believe, he had actually committed unethical and almost certainly illegal acts. The fact that he told the truth under oath to save himself was not a focal point. But if you look at his actions objectively, they were dishonest, sleazy, and possible resulted in denying the people a fair election.
Contrast that with Stormy. She has no immunity deal. Why? No one is accusing her of doing anything illegal. Yet she is being portrayed as someone more "sketchy" than Pecker.
Apparently, her testimony about her interactions with cheato is "icky" but that only applies to her, not the male who initiated the interaction. She is being judged by a completely different standard, and I submit that sexism is the reason.

(46,153 posts)I thought the analysts on MSNBC were pretty outraged as the slut shaming they perceived. They seemed quite animated about it. Good for them.

Never mind, she only screwed a two legged pig for money. Pecker's the one who killed stories and helped him get elected.

The elegant treatment of Hope Hicks vs Stormy Daniels. The affable cross examination of Pecker and praising him no end. But Daniels.
Nope, they are doing what has always been done to women who are raped or otherwise coerced into sex as Daniels was.
But make no mistake, Daniels is not the bad guy here. Trump is. In fact Trump is so bad here he will likely be found guilty.

(17,265 posts)Both Pecker and Hicks were willing to lie to the public about what is at issue here and yet neither were treated with the disdain that I see for Stormy.

Being called a CEO sounds a lot nicer than a porn star, even though the former did infinitely more damage to the free flow of information and in turn threaten our democracy as a result of his actions.

Which, come to think of it, would probably not at all the same for a male sex worker. So I guess the root of it is sexism, after all!

Childers identified Davis to police, saying he had shot her and Farr, wearing no disguise except a wig. Gavrel (who died on December 6, 2018, of pancreatic cancer, aged 64) said he was shot after Bass recognized the gunman as Davis and called him by name. Police arrested Davis that same night, at the home he shared with Karen Master, his then-girlfriend who would become his third wife. At the first trial, Davis's wealth was estimated at over $100 million ($540 million today).
Davis was only tried for the murder of Andrea. He was defended by famous Texas defense attorney Richard "Racehorse" Haynes. The prosecution case relied almost entirely on eyewitness testimony. Earlier in the day of the shooting, a judge had ordered Davis's monthly support to Priscilla increased from $3500 to $5000 ($18,740 to $26,770 today) and to pay her legal fees of $25,000 ($133,860 today) and household expenses of $24,000 ($128,510 today).[2] This change was proposed as a motive for the crimes.
Davis did not testify in his own defense. Haynes's defense concentrated on two main points. First, the complete lack of physical evidence linking Davis to the crime (no fingerprints, no firearm linked to the murder, etc.).[6] Second, Haynes focused on the eyewitness testimony, particularly Priscilla. Haynes depicted her as living in two worlds: Fort Worth high society, and a milieu of drug dealers, criminals, and sleazy sex. Haynes proposed that Priscilla's admitted heavy use of prescription painkillers made her an unreliable witness who might have been confused about the identity of her attacker.[6]
Journalist Gary Cartwright wrote: "most observers agreed later that the case was won as soon as Haynes completed his cross-examination of Priscilla"; this occurred only two weeks into a three-month trial.[6] Davis was found not guilty. Of the trial, prosecutor Tim Curry said, "We were out-bought and out-thought".[3][5]
If anyone was on trial, it was Priscilla
