Democrats Heavily Mobilized in Key State-Level Battleground Races
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced Monday that Democrats are running competitive candidates in every critical state-level battleground race in the largest candidate mobilization in years.
The news comes on the heels of five huge victories for Democrats in special elections, beginning with Florida Democrat Tom Keen's defeat of a MAGA extremist in the first major upset legislative flip of 2024 in January. Keen overperformed in a district that Ron DeSantis won by 11 points in 2022 in the Governor's race.
Then came the stunning victory of Democrat Marilyn Lands in the 10th Alabama House district by 25 points, despite losing the seat two years earlier by 7 points.
Other victories included taking back control of the Michigan Legislature in April, where Democrats Peter Herzberg and Mai Xiong emerged victorious in special elections, delivering a strong rebuke of GOP extremism. Both Herzberg and Xiong won their races by over 20 points.
Now, the DLCC plans to capitalize on this momentum by investing heavily in several battleground contests in swing states in November, in an attempt to secure total Democratic victory in state houses all over the country. Candidate recruitment has been the priority, with the DLCC announcing a "reverse coattail" strategy of driving engagement in down ballot races to affect results up and down the ballot.
