There's A GOP Plan For An Execution Spree If Trump Wins The White House

There's A GOP Plan For An Execution Spree If Trump Wins The White House
Buried on page 554 of the plan is a directive to execute every remaining person on federal death row — and dramatically expand the use of the death penalty.
By Jessica Schulberg

During the final six months of Donald Trump’s presidency, his administration carried out an unprecedented execution spree, killing 13 people on federal death row and ending a 17-year de facto federal execution moratorium.

Shortly after Joe Biden entered the White House, the Justice Department formally reinstated the federal execution moratorium and announced a sweeping policy review. But despite Biden’s campaign promise to work to end the federal death penalty, there has been little progress toward that goal.

Meanwhile, Trump, the GOP’s presumptive 2024 presidential nominee, has openly fantasized about executing drug dealers and human traffickers. He reportedly suggested that officials who leak information to the press should be executed, too. And behind the scenes, there’s a team of pro-Trump conservatives who are pushing for a second Trump term that involves even more state-sponsored killing than the first.

Last year, a coalition effort by conservative groups known as Project 2025 released an 887-page document that lays out policy goals and recommendations for each part of the federal government. Buried on page 554 is a directive to execute every remaining federal death row prisoner — and to persuade the Supreme Court to expand the types of crimes that can be punished with death sentences.

"Thou Shalt Not Kill" really means 'thou shalt not murder', unless it's war, or unless it's the death penalty, or unless, of course, you really want to.

Fairly shitty set of commandments, if you ask me.

It's a mis-translation of a word that really means the intentional taking of life with no justification. You don't have to agree with the Bible or the commandment to understand what its saying from a historical or cultural standpoint.

Murder is always wrong. Killing is sometimes justified in situations that require violence to protect innocent victims from those trying to harm/kill them.

I won't weigh in on how that biblical principle applies to the death penalty which I support in theory but not in practice.

There is a word, in the bible, it is the source word in question, and that word has been supposedly mistranslated. That would be the word that is being "translated", correctly or not, from the source material.

To be a hair's breath away from a mass killing spree, then for those who stand against fascism to pull some strings?

The stinking Nazi loves to kill. Look how he allowed all those Americans to die from COVID when other countries never got such a large percentage of deaths. The US death toll from COVID exceeded that of peer nations.

His plan is not to just kill current death row inmates but to gather up political enemies too.

Liberals in Germany played by the rules too. That didn't stop those Nazis and it's not going to stop these Nazis either. It's time to stack the deck.

That 950-page document stretches legal definitions to Orwellian extremes.
It already provides for civil rights prosecutions of state and local officials
who fail to support the MAGA crackdown. Must protect those poor, oppressed
White Christians from the corrosive influences of LGBT, CRT, feminism, ...

The Trumpian proposal to execute officials who leak to the press
easily falls within an authoritarian definition of treason.

"I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any voters." is so often misunderstood. It is not a matter of "they don't care" about the killing.
The authoritarian Strong Leader executing people actually gins up support among authoritarian followers, it excites them to see the power of their Strong Leader.

For now, until the supreme court decides, extra judicial executions are off the table for a US president. The US president can't just go around shooting people like Duterte in The Philippines. Executions of death row inmates are the legal analog to shooting someone on 5th Avenue. Very public, a display of raw power.

And surely people remember that in the final days of Trump's first term he went on an execution spree. Where were the opus dei "Catholic" protests about the sanctity of life then?

How many innocent people have been released from death row or jail because people were able to prove their innocence.. in any number of ways, including DNA.. It is just a fact.. innocent people as well as the guilty are sitting in prison..

As long as that innocent person is in prison they will fight for their freedom. Because when an innocent person is convicted.. not only are they being punished but the guilty are running free todo whatever mayhem they want..

I just cant believe people cannot think things out. The death penalty is not a gift to anyone. Who in their right mind would want to live behind bars for the rest of their lives.. For the truly guilty, the death penalty is the easy way out..
