By just being mature enough to let the experts take the lead and take the point.

People forget when Covid first became a crisis here, that everyone lamented it politically. "Well, re-election is guaranteed for Trump now, facing a crisis like this will allow him to be the hero for leading the country and he won't even have to do anything but get out of the way." There were many posts here aout this. And he couldn't even do that. It was pure chaos here as he made the pandemic all about him. He simply couldn't let the experts set the policy, he had to pretend to be the expert on everything.

Sure, Republicans still would have fought Hillary whatever path she chose, but she would have made sure everything about Coid was as free from politics as possible. The medical experts would have been front and center, not the president.

I am only half kidding when I say that if Trump would have worn a mask and been adament that they are necessary, we would have had armed bands of MAGAs checking the public to make sure they were wearing their masks.

And the way he played games with the states was deplorable. States who praise him got help, states critical got the cold shoulder for federal funds. Just sick.

Thu May 9, 2024, 10:16 AM

The masks came off orange and he'd have been removing it in public to speak at a lectern regularly.

Republicans still would have bitched about her response to it and tried to score political points. But all the real guidelines would have been coming from medical experts and she would have gotten key Republicans to agree that we should just listen to the experts. Instead you had Trump being threatened by not knowing shit so he pushed Hydroxychoriquin and then Ivermectin. Then he thought he would score political points about schools being closed and vaccine mandates. All of that could have just been calm and accepted without Trump.

None of the chaos and unrest around Covid would have happened if anyone else would have been president. Hell, here in Michigan, we had armed militias trying to kill our governor over Covid rules.

I hadn't thought of that. The mask would be covered in it and his "handsome" face would be all smeared. Such a vain, insecure man.

Yes, he could have made a huge difference, just by setting a good example and then supporting the experts who were educating the public about the pandemic. Everything he touches is made far worse than it needs to be.

Thu May 9, 2024, 12:43 PM

He'd need to wear less of the stuff, and a good powder to reduce the foundation transferring to the mask. When it's on, stay stoic as much as possible behind it. Time to take it off? Both hands for ear straps off, then mask straight out from face. Then you only need a light touchup where the mask edges were.

I can't count how many times my mum had to go straight from a social event into surgery with full makeup on, and came out looking like she did going in because those were her tricks to keep a mask from destroying her cosmetic application. One time, she was so knackered after surgery that she came home with the mask still on, LOL. She took it off, and there was barely any makeup on it--and barely any smudging to her face, either.

That's because she knew those little tricks to keep her makeup as intact as possible, mask or no mask, most of the time.

So Trump is a creature of habit, he wears Old Spice cologne wich is as cheap as it gets. He wears the same spray tan and bronzer that he has for 30 years, it's cheap and he probably buys it by the bucket. That stuff doesn't stay put like good cosmetics do, it's like paste and gets on everything. His shirts often are a mess from the spray tan being all over it.

But, he was doing more than playing games. The initial deaths were POC and concentrated in Blue states. The 'right' people were dying, so Jared and the Orange Turd didn't push for preventative measures. Quite the opposite;

Don't forget, they were also confiscating the PPE that blue states, and companies in blue states, would order from China. Friends of Jared would sell it to the National Stockpile. Which wouldn't send any to the Blue States, so they'd have to order more.

of lives

b) Scrapped President Obama and Dr. Fauci’s global pandemic task force

iii) Fired the CDC’s epidemiologist who was on the ground in Wuhan, China looking
exactly for things like C-19 virus. Btw the disease came from “the wet markets” in
Wuhan because I believe in the science of evolutionary biologists who used the virus’

17. On the wet markets
Thu May 9, 2024, 10:34 AM
May 9

Yes, I have heard this too. The science has led it to the wet markets. And there was some uncertainty for a couple years, because science needs to be objective and follow the evidence. The difference is that people looking for one answer found it and ignored what happened after with the science. There was a point in time where the labs seemed more likely, so some people got the answer they wanted then and that has been their truth since. Where as people who respect science and want the actual truth would have been totally accepting if it had eventually concluded that this was from a lab leak.

And that's the Youtube, Instagram research model you see now. Look for a single study supporting your position and then stop looking after you find the answer you want. So you've got Joe Rogan and Bill Maher types who were looking for answers they wanted on all sorts of things around Covid and once they found them, stopped looking. That's why you hear Bill Maher constantly saying things like, "The masks didn't work." "The school shutdowns didn't save lives and did more harm than good." "Vaccines don't prevent the spread." They take one sentence off some random study and draw their conclusions and then cement them in place. When in reality the science continues and leads to more definitive answers. Masks did work, they significantly reduced the spread and the number of deaths, that's what the science says. Vaccines do in fact reduce the spread, even today vaccinated people are several times less likely to get Covid, it's just not 95% like some people want.

And on schools. The data is more murky, but it likely did save lives. But here's the thing, this was a novel virus we didn't know a ton about. Even if they turned out to be unnecessary, it was still the right call at the time. It was still the prudent decision with a virus that was novel and rapidly changing. We didn't know foir sure that kids were safer from it than adults. What if it would have mutated to some 97% fatality rate for children under 10? We couldn't risk all that until we knew more about it. And we still needed to stop kids from spreading it at home if they got it at school.

It's like Bill Maher and Joe Rogan show up to the pool and there's a downed power line laying in the water. They don't go swimming for fear of electicution, then the maintenance man shows up and says, "Oh, hey, that was unconnect coaxial cable for cable TV, it is not electrified." Roagn and Maher both go, "OMG, we are such idiots, wer should have just jumped in the pool, we could hae been swimming this whole time. We were so wrong to wait to make sure jumping into the pool wasn't going to kill us instantly. I'll never forgive myself."

…. sections of genetic material and where it came from. A to G and T to C works every time.

The mouth breathers who went after Dr. Fauci for changing some of the protocols on the handling
of the disease can not or more likely will not understand that when the data, our understanding,
of the virus, the disease, and the human body changes then the protocols of treatment, research,
and medical care needs to change too.

Btw. One of President Biden’s 1st hires was a Nobel prize winner from U.C. Berkeley to advise

Trump clearly knew of what was coming - and how calamitous it was - months before he let on.

You might recall that in early November 2019 already, he issued a secret warning to Israel and NATO about the imminent pandemic.

This is public knowledge, thanks to the Times of Israel.

Which leads me to the suspicion (not conclusion, mind you), that it may indeed have been a bio-warfare attack against China - most likely because they refused to pay his Tootsie her $2 billion (remember that one?).

The CIA and Pentagon were against it for the obvious reasons - so Trump probably resorted to what he had just used in Venezuela in his failed attempt (Op. Gideon) at regime change: mercenaries.

You can bet that whatever billionaire may have funded said mercenaries (much like Reagan resorted to billionaires like Coors and that lush Ellen Garwood to help fund the Contras), is now desperate to see him back in the White House.

Better and quicker attempts early on might have prevented the virus reaching pandemic levels. The first US notification of the potential pandemic was in November, but Trump ignored everything about Covid until late January when it was too late.

She also would have set up quarantine facilities for people returning to the US. I still remember those photos of the Chicago airport with people packed in like sardines and nowhere to go for hours, making it easy for Covid to spread to many thousands. The per capita Covid death rate puts the US at number 17 in the world, far higher than most developed countries and solely Trump’s fault for politicizing Covid.

There are so many terrible things that wouldn't have happened if the presidency hadn't been stolen from her. In addition to the many lives lost from Covid, the thousands of children separated from their families (some of whom still haven't been reunited), three corrupt Supreme Court justices taking our rights away and generally wreaking havoc, people killed by hateful, racist & antisemitic monsters, climate change worsening instead of improving, our important secrets being given away or sold to our enemies, etc., etc. Ukraine would probably not have been invaded by Putin because he wouldn't have been so emboldened. The orange creature has done so much damage to our country and the world, and continues unabated. I really can't believe that the race is supposedly so close. It's so disheartening to know that there are millions of people just like him, rooting him on. But I truly believe that he will lose resoundingly in November. Right here and everywhere else, every day. Hillary's whole career erased and replaced with a gross caricature to make the election all about her. Long history of the Democratic Party's goal of universal health care as a human right erased. Myth that FDR/LBJ were democratic socialists and therefore the roots of the party were socialist, that the party had shifted Right over the last 30 or 40 years (because of Wall Street of course) and were horribly immoral and ideologically bankrupt, worse than Republicans. People went around calling themselves FDR Democrats as if FDR wasn't a liberal Democrat (and upper class 1% wealthy elite who hated socialism).

It’s beyond heartbreaking. I’m happy to see Hillary surviving and thriving, despite it all. She still has so very much to offer.

In light of recent political events and court rulings, it’s easier to understand how it took nearly 100 years for women to achieve the right to vote.

We still have very far to go.

Hillary by either not voting or voting third party.

In every critical swing state Hillary lost by less than 1% while Jill Stein received 1% in those critical swing states.

I'll include Jane Sanders in that list, because even up until election day, she was providing cover and making excuses for, and encouraging people to not vote for the Democratic nominee... I believe she said something along the lines of "it's not important WHO we vote for and more important THAT we vote." Ugh! When I saw that, it made me want to vomit. Sickening! What a bitter and vengeful woman she is (but she can afford it and can easily be comfortable during the Trump years... other vulnerable folks had to endure the horrors, but she and Sarandon were quite comfortable and safe in their Ivory Towers.)

. . . of Hilary entering the race, perhaps with Biden's support and blessing? She'd wipe the toilet with trump.

That was her response, too.

"She's so capable and smart. The world would be in a better place if she'd been elected."

59. Not President due to Electoral College [terrible name] and sexist ways of Americans when voting.

HRC won the number of votes but the E.C. chucked that to the ground,

If sexism wasn't ingrained in the American thought processes since birth her TOTAL VOTES would have overwhelmed the E.C.
to meaningless.

Many cast a vote for the man or did not cast a vote at all.

The U.S. suffers so much due to our ills and bigotry

HRC is wonderful. But without knowing what the Trump presidency would be like, if she had been president the Trump people and Trump would have hounded her continually.
Her policies might have saved millions, but I’m not sure it would have mattered with all the hate.
