Donald Trump Has a GOP Base Problem

Donald Trump's dominance in the 2024 Republican primaries is still being hampered by Nikki Haley's ongoing and potentially significant support. On Tuesday, the presumptive 2024 Republican candidate continued his successful primary season with a resounding victory in Indiana, winning more than 78 percent of the vote.

However, Haley, Trump's last remaining Republican rival who dropped out of the race in March, still managed to achieve 21.7 percent of the vote, amounting to more than 128,000 votes. It's the latest sign that a sizable portion of the GOP's base still does not want to support the MAGA former president.

When broken down further, the Indiana Republican primary results showed that the former United Nations ambassador achieved more than 30 percent in several areas, such as Marion Country, where the state capital, Indianapolis, is located, and the affluent suburb of Hamilton Country.

While discussing the results Ammar Moussa, a spokesperson for President Joe Biden's 2024 campaign team, posted on X, formerly Twitter: "Nikki Haley dropped out 2 months ago. Tonight she's picking up over 100,000 votes and 22% of the primary vote in *Indiana.* Trump has a GOP base problem."

The proest votes because of the war in Gaza got endless coverage, but they never got to 22% of Democratic voters. This is a huge problem for Trump and he can't win without 90% + GOP support.

5. Many older Repubs are done with him but could these just be protest votes?

Could they just leave the POTUS part of the ballot blank?

12. My take: if they bothered to vote for her, they're pissed off.

Otherwise, they'd have stayed home. I think they're traditional gqp lower tax voters. But many could also be women who are angry about Roe getting trounced. Either way, they no longer ate magats. So, great!

I’ve posted this before- I know of two married sets of longtime Repubs who aren’t voting for Trump. The wife in the younger couple is voting Biden. She’s in Georgia. The other couple is in Virginia.

They would would have stayed home otherwise, and instead they are making a statement. I would bet anything that most of the protest vote is from women. After all...pregnancy, rape, incest, etc. happens to both D and R women.

When is he going to turn his attention to RFK Jr.? Does he not pose a greater threat to him than Joe does?

Joe is working to expand his base by going out to the states where his policies are making an obvious impact. Improving people's lives is what Democratic Presidents do. TAXING the wealth of the Uber rich like Elon Musk, the Waltons of Walmart, Harlan Crow, and Jeff Bezos 25% is a popular idea. Even the Uber rich who support Democrats support this.
