Do you know what Hillary's nomination means to me, a woman in her late fifties?

There are tears in my eyes as I type this, and no doubt, there will be more tears.

The tears are a combination of things. Joy, happiness, disbelieve, reckoning, disappointment, acceptance, thankfulness, pride.

I grew up ahead of my time. I grew up in a household where women were treated equally. Grew up with a father who insisted that I could do anything that I wanted and nothing was off limits because I "was a girl". I was lucky.

I had many friends growing up who were not as lucky. They grew up in households where certain behaviors were expected, and certain were forbidden because of their gender. They grew up with limits and at some point in their lives, those limits were accepted by them and they quit trying to push the limits any further. I saw friends wilt as they aged, unable or unwilling to push the status quo.

Do you KNOW how exciting last night was for me? Do you KNOW how liberating last night was for me? Do you KNOW how long I have waited? Do you KNOW how much I have believed in this, and how much I believe in this woman? Do you KNOW how much I want this hope to spread to those friends who have long given up and wilted? I want them to be inspired. I want them to push the limits again. It's not too late.

But especially, for my younger friends - my daughter and her generation of friends many of which I love like my own, and their children. I want the freedom that last night represents for them. I want them to push the limits and I want them to never even have to think of gender issues. I want them to simply "do". Simply "go". Simply "be".

We have finally reached a milestone that many of us weren't sure we'd ever reach. I am humbled that the milestone has been reached, and that the ceiling has been shattered. Because as Hillary said - "When there are no ceilings, the sky's the limit!"

Let's DO this in November, Democrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
