Boehner Threatens To Take The Debt Limit Hostage Again

(Think Progress) Last August, the nation narrowly avoided hitting its debt limit thanks to a last minute deal cut by Congress. House Republicans had threatened to push the country into a default unless Democrats agreed to spending cuts that were larger than the amount of the debt limit increase. The episode is widely regarded as an embarrassment for good governance and a blow for the economy. Standard & Poor’s, even with the deal, downgraded America’s credit rating, citing the GOP’s complete intransigence regarding revenue increases. But it seems Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) is ready to write the sequel, as he will reportedly demand today that the next increase in the debt limit follow the same GOP criteria.

Romney donor pulls support, backs Obama, over same-sex marriage

(CNN) – A well-known, openly gay supporter of Mitt Romney in New York has decided to withdraw his support for Romney and back President Barack Obama instead. The clincher: Romney's stance on same-sex marriage. "I feel that I no longer wish to support your presidential campaign and ask that you please return the maximum contribution that I gave to you last year," Bill White wrote in a letter addressed to the former Massachusetts governor and obtained by CNN.

Securing a small sketchpad and pencil from his mother, he created his own sign that read simply, "God Hates No One."

Romney Campaign Massively Downgrades The Number Of Jobs He Created From 100,000 To "Thousands"

In its effort to sell Mitt Romney as someone who understands the economy and knows how to create jobs, one of his campaign’s early talking points was that he helped create 100,000 jobs during his tenure at Bain Capital. The campaign repeated the claim throughout the primary, despite a glaring lack of evidence to support it (even Sarah Palin doubted it). Romney eventually stopped repeating the talking point, which advisers had difficulty defending under pressure, and now it seems Boston has completely Etch A Sketched the number and severely lowered the number of jobs Romney is supposed to have created at Bain.

President Obama seeks to undercut Mitt Romney's record on jobs

President Barack Obama is casting Mitt Romney as a greedy, job-killing corporate titan with little concern for the working class in a new, multi-pronged effort that seeks to undermine the central rationale for his Republican rival's candidacy: his business credentials.

Jeffrey Toobin: How Chief Justice John Roberts orchestrated the Citizens United decision.

Originally, the Citizens United case was a boring case involving the interpretation of the text of a law. The only question was whether the campaign finance law on the books actually covered the documentary video in the case. It had little to do the Constitution (or whether corporations were people). However, instead of deciding that question, the court issued a one sentence statement that ordered the case to be reargued. The new question was much broader: were these laws restricting corporate election spending Constitutional in the first place?

Weary warriors favor Obama

(Reuters) - Mack McDowell likes to spend time at the local knife and gun show "drooling over firearms," as he puts it. Retired after 30 years in the U.S. Army, he has lined his study with books on war, framed battalion patches from his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, a John Wayne poster, and an 1861 Springfield rifle from an ancestor who fought in the Civil War. But when it comes to the 2012 presidential election, Master Sergeant McDowell is no hawk.
