With UN approval, would you support military action?
There is currently a divide among critics of the Bush war drive. Some remain opposed to military action against Iraq, regardless of what UN inspectors say, or what resolution is or is not passed by the UN Security Council. Others, including the leaders of Germany and France, have stated that war is the last, least desirable option, but an option nonetheless, presumably if "circumstances change."

If Hans Blix gave up on the possibility of progress via inspections, and the UN Security Council were to pass a resolution approving forceful, military measures, would you support such action, perhaps support it, or definitely oppose it? This is a valid question, especially if the momentum of the anti-war movement is not to be side-tracked by diplomatic or other setbacks.

Not ever!

A war undertaken under false pretenses can hardly be made "just" simply by strongarming the UN into "agreeing" with it.

37. No. I don't trust Chimpy, and this is an act of sheer aggression
It took us four days to defeat his army under Poppy. They are, by all accounts, even weaker now.

We are bullies, innocent Iraqis are going to die because Chimpy is either too stupid or too power-mad to respond to reality.

The "just because" war--as someone else said, we are going to war precisely BECAUSE we know they don't have WMD, because it will be a cake-walk. Korea is the example of how we treat rogue states that actually do have WMD.

We are bullies. I am so ashamed. And I hope no one I love gets taken down as collateral damage when that cowardly AWOL business failure's karma comes due.

3. Any War would still be unjust
if it is not in response to an invasion or attack by Iraq.

But I would accept the decision of the world community.

Hopefully the U.N. would not allow an unjust war.

12. I wouldn't count on the UN
Too many countries can be bought off or swindled. They want loans and aid, and better deals. This Gulf War II could prove very expensive. I am hopeful the UN will not approve such a war, but I think we should be prepared for it.

you are willing to wait until we get hit again? I see this guy as a threat to the free world. He may not pull the trigger but he is more than willing to provide the methods to anyone that is willing die as long as they inflict pain on the U.S. and our friends.

4. No, I would not
If the UN were to pass a resolution approving forceful military measures, I'd think the UN had either lost its collective mind or caved to the BFEE. Either way, I'm comfortable enough with my own sense of ethics that I'd disagree with war if I was the only lonely soul on the planet who felt that way. Fortunately, I'm not alone in this regard.

6. No.
For one thing, the UN is too susceptible to US pressure. Also, I am anti-war in general. I don’t believe that WAR encourages disarmament. I don’t believe that we can work on ways to replace war and wage war at the same time.

If the UN approves, how can we possibly prevent an invasion of Iraq?

62. hi rbnyc
the hard fact is that the UN must relent or RISK wwIII...
they will eventually cave... evidence will be found that shows sadam is in violation...

remember the brits and us have been patrolling their skies without any UN mandate for over a decade...

either way these creeps are gonna take what's rightfully theirs... from their perspective, of course

peace

33. Dear Sir,
I share your concern since I know personally all too well the dirty dealing these organizations have done in the past. What is prepared for America is beyond description. A nightmare of Orwelian proportion. These Prison are set for the free thinking Americans that don't belong to the ruling 'elite'. America will become the most controlled country in the world. The Stasi police with their redumentary classifiers pales in comparison to the eventual tracking of every individual citizen in America. Your ability to learn, work and marry will be controlled by the state. Why all of this? Shear evil and lust for power by those that are on top.
