"Taliban agree to Stop Fighting in Konduz"
http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/11/21/gen.war.against.terror/index.html

Details are unclear but if this works out it is BIG and BIG for the US, I should think. Gets us out of a real pickle.

I doubt the US is going to stop until every last Taliban stronghold is wiped out. Are they going to accept the Kunduz deal? Probably not.

4. "I don't know, Cappurr..."

...what's gonna happen to all the Taliban's foreign Legion? The Afghanis don't seem to want them, other then to mutilate and kill them. The Northern Alliance certainly doesn't have the resources to hold them as POWs, even if they were inclined to. And we've made it quite clear that we aren't going to do that. Where are they going to go? More importantly, where are we going to let them go? Pakistan? Chechen? Saudia Arabia? Who's going to open their door to 10,000 murderous fanatics?

This does, thankfully, solve one problem, it saves the 30,000 non-combatants in Konduz from further bombings, and being in the way of the NA's assault on the city.

Other then that, I feel this will only open another potentially troubling can of worms.

There is no sin, except stupidity.
-Oscar Wilde (1845-1900)

They can not be turned loose in the general populace.
They only want to live to kill again.

No quarter.

7. "Sometimes killing is good. "
In the Grand scheme of things, if a segment of the general population displays what can be described as cancerous symptoms and the rest of the population decide the segment must go in order the whole may survive.... then guess what, get out the red hor dagger cus a lancing is about to take place.

The Talimons have given the world every indication of its hostile intransigence and there fore forfiets is right to life on Earth in our same time frame, they just have got to go.

Its time for the Daisy Cutters, yippee kai yai yyyahhh

8. "the hypocrisy of the human beast"
"Killing is good whenever we're the ones doing it, and it is bad whenever it is the other side doing it."
So says bin Laden, Bush1, Mullah Omar, Hitler, Popes and Kings who ordered the Crusades, Stalin, Bush2, and various other bloodthirsty tyrants.

Killing is never good. It is done, often by people who convince themselves that it needs to be done. However, it is never a good act.

You say it is good because it is our side doing the killing on an enemy you have been told deserves it. ... "They" do the killing to an enemy they have been told deserves it. To them it is good, just as much to you it is good now that our side kills.

A video of some people (for the convienence of reference, lets call them Palestinians) who you are told are cheering about the WTC being attacked, is bad. A stadium full of Americans at Yankee stadium cheering at being told that our bombing has begun, is good?

There exists no difference between the two sides, if that is the best argument you can produce.

11. "I agree..."
...how CAN killing be good sometime & bad another time??
How can things ever change if we don't change the pattern??

"There exists no difference between the two sides, if that is the best argument you can produce."

Exactly...

I'm wondering if there IS any way to stop the "game" ...doesn't it take 2 (or more) to play?? What if the other person doesn't continue with the expected pattern- play the "game" of you killed one of mine so I'll kill one of yours??

(Of course I realize its MUCH more complex than just two people...but can't one person do SOMETHING?? something to change the old patterns of re-acting???)

And yeah, one person can change things for awhile anyway. Ask Ghandi. MLK. Unfortunately change isn't always positive. Ask Hitler. GWB.

Keep coming back and keep posting.

15. "I beg to differ and remain convinced there are times when evil criminals foster mayhem and death they must be dealt with"
in a most severe way, death by stoning, or what ever is appropriate. There comes a time when we humans must atone for the mistakes we make and overpopulation without a way to address the problem humanely is one of them. As in the case of an overcrowded lifeboat with no hope of rescue, the person(s) in charge must make decisions as who stays and who goes. Its as simple as that. We on Earth must first decide if we wish to continue our stupid path into destiny or do we take the path to opportunity. Because we have not shown signs of wanting the latter, we remain entrenched with our old and present systems of governance which then leads to our problems. For Gods Sake, we cannot even find a self improving system to work better than the one in place???what we got is old already, outmoded. Give me and others a break. We have great need to get the ball rolling but we do so in a weak and well mannered way, almost wimpish. All this brings us full circle back to our brutal present world. There are no Polly annas out there. They are long gone, raped and pillaged, murdered, left for dead, kept in bondage, whatever. This world is filled with assholes, and I am afraid, some of them should die so others may live in a peaceful and fruitful manner. As our prisons keep getting filled, our ability to feed ourselves adequately diminishes. We don't feel it now but if the prisons reach epidemic numbers and are filled to the brim, our ability to house them will falter. We will look for ways to "off" some of the nasty guys.

Sorry, I am of the old school, I hate it when Peace is shoved off to the side and her friends Sanity and Reason are rejected. Until she returns I remain convinced the cancerous segments of our human population should be surgically removed and terminated. After all, these guys prevent Peace from coming home where she belongs.

Come, we go build bonfires nx to the cannabis forest

9. "I'm not so sure about that"
I don't begin to understand why the administaration and the media is playing this Konduz thing up like it's the end of the fight. We're a helluva long way from that.

Check the map. Konduz is in the northeast corner of Afghanistan, and there's a hell of a lot of terrirory to the west left to take. Cities are one thing, but the land we have *no* control over is a bigass mountain range, and winter is coming.

The pickle this does get us out of is that if these guys surrender, we won't have to level the city and wipe out civilians to get them out. But there's a lot of fighting left to do. Guerilla fighting.

Last time I heard, by the way, we were gunning for OBL. He's not in Konduz, and the deaths of all 15,000 Taliban warriors there isn't going to make him pop up. The fall of Konduz is a step, and a good turn in the military sense. But don't believe the hype - there's a lot of woods left to get through.

Besides, this is only one country. Bush said something about the other 59 just yesterday.

"Let us begin by committing ourselves to the truth - to see it like it is, and tell it like it is - to find the truth, to speak the truth, and to live the truth." - Richard M. Nixon

10. "Thats the pickle I'm talking about Will...."
I know that Kunduz is hardly the end of Bush's "war" or the fighting in Afghanistan, for that matter. But if these guys were really allowed to surrender, in would prevent a slaughter which in turn will prevent turning millions MORE muslims against the West..

It really doesn't matter. It can't be stopped at this point. The time to have thought about all this was BEFORE we started bombing. This whole Afghan mess is going to be a slaughter.

This is a tribal, warlord society. We really have no real understanding of their culture. We will never "install" any peaceful government in that country, not in my lifetime nor any of yours.
