As a native Oregonian 15 years younger than Kesey was when he died, who attended college in the San Francisco Bay area in the late 60's to early 70's, whose brother attended the same high school as Kesey, who was a high school jock and imbiber of the medications Kesey prescribed, and who read all his writings but preferred Sometimes a Great Notion to them all, I cry for our loss and pray for his family.

6. "The last time I saw Ken"
was about 5 years ago. I told him how much I liked his book, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". He said to me, "You should read Sometimes a Great Notion", that is a much better book." I still haven't read this one (yet). As a tribute to Ken, I'll be sure to give it a try once again. Rest in peace Ken and fare you well!

It is the best book I have read in my life(so far; I'm still at it). Do yourself a huge favor and check it out of the library today.

5. "The Prankster passes..."
The van of Merry Pranksters is on its final tour today... to join the pantheon of Great American Authors.

I, for one, will pay tribute to his life.

<--- The Zomby ponders the significance of the giant cup of coffee. Woof! He said.

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say that there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and THAT is the basic building block of the universe." --- Frank Zappa

7. "IRONY is indeed dead"

**************************************************

"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. And corruption wears infinite disguises. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted."

-Frank Herbert

And for the sentiment you expressed. I was feeling very alone this morning after hearing about Kesey's death.

13. "...parting thought..."
I was fortunate to attend a lecture Ken Kesey gave in Los Angeles back in the mid-'90s. He said something then that may serve us well in the coming years as we try to figure out what went wrong and how someone such as Dumbya ended up in charge.

"Always remember," Kesey admonished, "that in any society 'cream rises to the top'. . . and shit floats."

I hope on measure Kesey found life merry. I know he enriched my journey.

14. "He influenced so many "
I know it's the circle of life, but these legends just keep dying and who is taking their place?

Who are the heroes of this generation?

Burroughs
Gyson
Hoffman
Leary

It really is the end of an era
