"Dan Burton's having a hissy fit"
And so is Robert Novak:

More than FBI abuse or executive privilege is at stake. The White House's cavalier attitude toward Burton's subpoenas presaged inept handling of the Enron scandal. Its insistence on secrecy about Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force stems from the same root as its attempt to permit a Republican national chairman to double as a registered lobbyist. That root is arrogance of power.

Nobody is more distressed by this arrogance than Burton, a true-blue conservative Republican from Indiana who wanted no fight with his administration. Nevertheless, he insists his investigation ''really needs to be done'' and cannot be blocked by government lawyers.

1. "Go Dan Go!"
Dan may have been a jerk regarding the various Clinton investigations, but at least he's being consistent. I just hope he finds a way to blow up another watermelon while investigating the Enron scandal.

18. "too true"
Lots of Republicans (especially those held accountable by small businessman down on Main St, America) must be noticing that Bush is making the pie very small, and he's giving it all to his cronies (like the Enron insiders).

If Enron goes anywhere, it'll be because these people push it too.

2. "Is that a pig flying?"
"George W. Bush and John Ashcroft have given an excellent imitation of Bill Clinton and Janet Reno by withholding information from Congress. Indeed, they have surpassed their Democratic predecessors in defying the legislative branch."

Novak wrote that?!? Holy criminy!!!

4. "coming home to roost"
George Will called Bush "Clintonian" last week. And John Dean (of watergate fame) said Bush's secrecy will be his downfall.

Pretty soon they will be saying they held Clinton to a higher standard and all the wheels come off.

she ought to shoplift it." -- San Francisco Chronicle 1/4/01

10. "Two pigs flying."
How about this line as well?

"More than FBI abuse or executive privilege is at stake. That root is arrogance of power."

Even Novak is catching on that the pretzeldent is acting like a dictator with Asscroft as his Reich Marshal

5. "I'll be damned"
It is just incredible that even one of those in government can see past his rabid dog Republicanism to the truth. To me there is no reason to fight the release unless there is something to hide. Perhaps more and more of them will come to the same conculsion and pressure him more, not just the pundits but the elected.

He's the chairman of the committee that Henry Waxman sits on and Waxman is doing very good....Where's Dan Burton? Why isn't he helping out?

13. "Kentuct"
I just love this kind of talk because it shows that the crap will start to fly soon.

"Burton has come under attack from some conservatives because of praise from
Democratic Representatives Henry Waxman and Barney Frank for opposing the
pretensions of executive privilege even when a Republican president is responsible.
Those critics want Republicans to accept and actually imitate the arrogance that
habitually comes with executive power.

http://www.suntimes.com/output/novak/cst-edt-novak21.html

I praise Burton too. wink! And Novak wink!

15. "Clinton spoiled Burton"
In spite of claims to the contrary - Clinton was very cooperative about giving Burton every document he asked for. So not he expects the same from Bush - who's confused as to why a Republican would even ask for such a thing from another Republican.

16. "To me, Novak seems his nasty, snippy self."
Read that article carefully. What's really pissing him off is not getting access to the Boston FBI files. He wants them to blame Clinton. The other stuff is just so much dust in the eye...

except for I HOPE, I HOPE, I HOPE the last paragraph.

But even there he is only saying "everybody does it."He's a sleaze of the first rank. Don't get your hopes up.
