Downtown stadium becomes Minute Maid Park

Houston-based Minute Maid Co. agreed Wednesday to pay the Astros an estimated $170 million over 28 years for naming rights to the team's 3-year-old downtown ballpark plus an array of other advertising and marketing opportunities. The festive ceremony included a fireworks display and the team's vintage locomotive pulling a cart of giant "oranges" along the left-field railroad tracks.

The Minute Maid Co., known foremost for orange juice, has been a subsidiary of the Coca-Cola Co., based in Atlanta, since 1960. Minute Maid moved its headquarters to Houston in 1967. Today, the company does business in 100 countries under more than 40 brand names and generates $3.5 billion in yearly revenue.
