Police offer free storage of guns.
SOUTH LYON -- South Lyon's police chief says he's willing to store -- for free and with few questions asked -- any guns his city's residents don't want to keep at home.

So, in a voluntary program that started Monday, any South Lyon resident may take guns to the department and safely keep firearms out of the reach of children to prevent accidental gun deaths or injuries.

Police will check identification proving residency.

"I am trying to stay away from anything that could smack of Big Brother or gun control," Police Chief Lloyd Collins said Monday. "The sole motivation behind what we are doing is to prevent one child from getting injured.

As is to be expected the NRA is against this plan.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." -Robert Heinlein

"In Italy under the Borgias they had warfare, terror,
murder, bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo,
Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In
Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had five
hundred years of democracy and peace.
And what did they produce?
The cuckoo-clock."

- Orson Welles, "The Third Man"

Do right until the stars fall, and if they do, continue to do right.

The NRA is neutral on this offer, it was an organization called Brass Roots that was against the idea. Apparently Brass Roots was formed because they thought the NRA was too liberal. Go figure.
