Until the body was transported to Israel%2C while it remained on the site%2C and kept by the IDF%2C more soldiers use the rare photo opportunity next to a celebrity enemy fighter. Only a week earlier%2C Israel was outraged by the death of 12 navy commandos in a failed attack on Ansaryiah%2C Lebanon. The defaced body of one soldier%2C Itamar Ilya%2C was returned to Israel in June 1998%2C as part of an exchange deal. This was nine months later. Ilya%27s body was returned in exchange for%2C among others%2C the body of Nasrallah%27s son. %0D%0A%0D%0AVanity photos published in Lebanon following that failed attack%2C and broadcast by TV stations in Europe%2C showed body parts%2C uniforms%2C and military gear. Soldiers have told Kol Ha%27ir that Peled presents his photos during combat-heritage classes he leads. %0D%0A%0D%0AThe class of March 2000 in Golani brigade%27s sappers unit%2C has a unit photo album containing many horror photos of Palestinians killed by the unit%27s soldiers since the beginning of the Intifada. Next to the corpses appear the soldiers%2C satisfied smiles on their faces. Most of the Palestinians in the album were killed some months ago%2C in the North of the West Bank%2C during an operation in which the sappers unit killed Tanzeem men. %0D%0A%0D%0AEarly in February%2C a Palestinian%2C Nasser Al-Hassanat%2C was killed after penetrating green houses in the settlement Kfar Darom. There is a certain desensitization that develops in people that witness war and massacres. It is a defense mechanism more than anything else.
