World broadcast/newspaper media links for searches
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 08:52 PM by stillcool47
This new topic is awaiting edits. It was started by kevinbgoode.

I'm including some media links started and contributed by a few of us in a general discussion thread with the hope that we can build a library of fast access to radio/tv/newspapers around the world when anyone is seeking information about a topic. If possible or necessary, a brief explanation of each link might be a good idea so people can choose what works best for them in a search for information.

Here are a few to get us started (with explanations below the link):

http://www.crhear.com /

This looks more complicated than it really is - search for live television/radio broadcasts in most areas of the world. I don't believe registration is required and the service is free.

http://www.dnsradio.com/internetradiostations /

This is a page full of varied links to a wide variety of radio broadcasting streams online - each seems to go to a different master page where you can make selections. Includes some entertainment links and a lot of UK stuff.

http://www.onlinenewspapers.com /

A very easy world newspaper search engine, but I don't believe this one has translations. However, many countries have English language editions that are posted, or at least one English language newspaper.

http://www.radiofreeworld.com/page7.html

What I like about this site is that there are tons of category links with lots of subjects, including one called Working TV for labor news around the world and even surf cams from all over and NASA TV . .some more serious stuff as well but an interesting resource all the same.

http://www.comfm.com/live/tv/?p=site&a=&li=1&pp=4

OK...I don't like the way this web site looks (too much orange). . .but it has a pretty comprehensive directory of domestic and international broadcasting live (and taped) sources - I never seem to use this one first but it has been a valuable backup resource to look for programming in other countries or international news.

http://www.jbbtv.com/#

I like Johnny Broadband - if you notice the three photos on the page, they represent three different areas (entertainment streams, movie clips, online television/radio) that you can search through to pull up broadcasting in different countries.

http://www.tvradioworld.com

I sometimes find some dead links in their categories, but this is very easy to use and it features columns alongside stations that show you which broadcast live online and what stations feature a web site.

http://www.humanitas-international.org/newstran/index.h...

This is Newstran's free (and you don't have to register) newspaper translater web site. You simply click on the scroll down (for example, choosing Russian - English) and clicking on that choice brings up a page with a column listing of all the Russian language papers. If you click on one of the names, it pulls up the newspaper in ENGLISH - however, keep in mind this is a simple translation (meaning more literal). . .not easily reliable as direct quoting material but you can get the gist of a story from the translation very easily.

http://newslink.org /

One of the other posters on that thread (and my apologies, cuz I can't remember the handle) offered this link, and it's a great one - easy to use, nicely organized and an efficient index of newspapers.

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/page?page=about

While this is an old site (and it doesn't look like it's been updated in a long time) it has a very extensive listing of online radio stations all over the world - and most links I've tried before work quite well. It also breaks down radio formats in the search to categories (like news and talk radio)..a good way to get breaking information or added election returns on nights we are biting our nails around here waiting for new information.

Ok...that's it from me. . .I started this because I am so impressed at how many of us share resources so easily with each other - and I was thinking a good general catalog like this will help people just explore and locate things when they are seeking even general media/news information. Please add any link of interest that you find useful - information is POWER!! :-)---kevinbgoode
