"...Snyder is the York County man who lost his case against Westboro Baptist Church — which protested at his son Matthew's funeral by waving signs that read "God hates fags" and "God hates the USA" — before the U.S. Supreme Court in March.

He served as grand marshal of Saturday's American Spirit Parade in Lancaster, which returned after a one-year hiatus due to lack of funds. Snyder received a warm welcome and standing ovation from many of the spectators who lined the route through the city.

One woman shouted from her seat along the curb on Orange Street: "I love you, and I have so much respect for you." Others gave Snyder a thumbs-up, or a respectful nod of the head.

In an interview, the soft-spoken 55-year-old, whose reddish goatee is beginning to gray at the edges, said he is grateful for the overwhelming support he's received since losing his case. ..."
