The Rent's Too Damn High but It's a Problem With an Easy Solution
A study released this week by researchers at Harvard University found that rents are rising fast, and an increasing number of Americans are forking over half of their gross income or more on rent. It's a big squeeze on struggling households. There is, however, an elegant, simple solution to what is a growing problem. But it's a policy focused on helping individuals, rather than corporate America, and, as you might expect, it has so far languished in Congress under a barrage of lobbying.

I think we Working Folk should think more in terms of the final human right to expropriate the Commons and put it back into our hands...

When the excrement hits the air conditioner in the not too distant future, that's what we should be prepared to do!

1. I like this solution but there are other solutions that would also help.
First, of all increase the rental vouchers. When I asked to be placed on the list in our small town there were only 60 vouchers for the whole town. I am a senior so they put me at the bottom of the list. I am now living with someone using shared rent.

Second, The energy assistance programs meant to improve housing (roofs, heating, etc.) should also be available to owners of rental property with he provision that they rent to voucher users. This would begin to eliminate substandard rental housing and provide more rental housing for the disabled and working poor.
