M. Bashir not mincing words. "...their issue is with the fact that a black man is living in the WH."
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 03:11 PM by Parker CA
Just called those SOB's out on this crap in his closing statement.

I haven't been a big follower of Martin Bashir's show since it started, but he has been extremely direct in calling out the racism and crap behind all of this birther nonsense. Dylan Ratigan looked genuinely shocked at the handover when Bashir signed off. Nice to see someone calling the bullsh*t for what it is.

Edited to fix my use of a term people took offense to. Wasn't intended as such.

2. Did you have to say "calling a spade a spade"?
:spank:

13. from Wiktionary --
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/call_a_spade_a_spade

to call a spade a spade

1. (idiomatic) to speak the truth; to say things as they really are

(Can we date this quote?) Maybe God just calls a spade a spade, when the president talks to God. - Bright Eyes

Usage Notes --

Sometimes mistakenly taken as derogatory from the sense of spade that refers to a black person. However those two expressions are unrelated; this refers to the digging instrument, and the other to the card suit.

15. But sometimes a spade is just another kind of shovel....
I believe the saying originated in farming, not racism.

19. Hmm. I thought it came from "black as the ace of spades".
It's not a word I can remember hearing real people use, but Archie Bunker on All in the Family used it fairly often.

But I suspect it was unintentional; you don't hear that epithet much any more.

8. If the insinuation is that I was using it in a racially derogatory manner, I'm being misinterpreted.
I wasn't aware of the issue with the term until I read the wiki right now, but even it says the derogatory use was recognized after the original term.

If I offended anyone that was not the intention.

14. I don't think anyone thought that - at least, I didn't.
It's a term that is not used much any more, so unless you are old like me you probably weren't even familiar with it. Just mentioning it because of the irony, even though unintentional.

And let me just say, I really dig Mr. Bashir's show. Sane, sober news coverage in the middle of the day. Truly refreshing.

7. must be a recent spinal injection -- Andrew Brietbart danced on his head not too long ago
Come one, allowing something as repulsive as Breitbart on your show and then allowing him to shut you down by over-talking and bullying? I stopped watching him after that.

especially if he was all white and had a Christian name.

20. Agreed! They can't deal with the idea that there's a black man in the Oval Office
and he isn't the janitor.

I think two things were going on here, within that mindset:

1) I think a shitload of them originally thought it might not REALLY be so bad, that maybe-just-maybe they MIGHT be able to stomach it. And then they just realized they couldn't.

2) And I think there might also have been some in such denial that "it couldn't REALLY have happened, could it? Naaah. Not possible in MY America! You watch - we'll all wake up in the morning and find out that it was all just a bad dream..." But then they kept waking up morning after morning, and finding out that NO WAY was it some "bad dream," it was the God's Honest Truth. And after a few too many of those mornings, they just couldn't stand it anymore and something snapped.
