Dog fighting app causing controversy
Dog fighting app causing controversy

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The blood sport known as dog fighting is outlawed in all 50 states.

It got NFL quarterback Michael Vick thrown into prison three years ago, but it's perfectly legal in the virtual world.

That's the idea behind a new app called "Dog Wars," a new video game available for free on the Android smart phone market.

Critics say the game perpetuates cruelty against animals and teaches people how to prepare dogs for fights.

1. Oh, the humanity!
And the Road Runner influences people to drop anvils on their enemies.

5. Self defense.
Coyote was always trying to catch and eat roadrunner -- or at least to blow him up. Good thing Acme products never worked very well. ;-)

3. Mike Vick came out against it.
Michael Vick Says Google's "Dog Wars" Game Glorifies Animal Abuse

"I've come to learn the hard way that dogfighting is a dead-end street," Vick says. "Now, I am on the right side of this issue, and I think it's important to send the smart message to kids, and not glorify this form of animal cruelty -- even in an Android app."

6. I have done journals on Michael Vick and have generally not had the best
opinion of the guy. To sum up I basically felt he paid his dues and should be allowed to make his living playing football, but did not see the need for him to ever own a dog again.

This, however, was a very good step by Vick. He is still a celebrity and to have him come out against this may put pressure on Google to drop the game. I hope he continues to speak out on this issue because he can definitely make a positive impact.
