Should Harry Reid make Repubs in Senate vote up or down on Ryan bill?
Edited on Mon Apr-25-11 05:45 PM by kentuck
Of course, he wants to make sure he has the votes before he makes that call but it would definitely put a lot of Republican Senators on the spot. Let them go back and defend their votes against Medicare just like their brethren in the House.

That would be fun!

1. Let that POS bill die in the House. Don't dignify it with a Senate vote.
Stalemate is good in this case.

3. I think they will already be "tarred" with the same brush....
that their House RETHUG compatriots are.... I fear this might backfire--even if it can't pass, it might give RETHUGS an opportunity to push the "they brought it up in the Senate, so they support it as well" meme, which some low info voters might buy.

6. Yes. They just said on Cenk's show a bit ago Sen Reid is going to put it up for a vote.
Susan Collins (R-ME) has already said she will vote 'no'.

7. Why not?
Put them on record. I think it would be a straight party line vote...maybe with 2-3 defections on both sides. Worst case is Obama veto's it and let the voters decide in 2012.

8. Unless some (D)s vote for it then he doesn't need a whip count

I think it would be a good idea. To many (D) seats up in 2012 to not build up all the political capital possible.

9. Great idea. If the teanuts vote for it, we have an issue to nail them with come 2012.
If the teanuts don't vote for it, the bill dies and they can't bring it back up again.

The President has veto power and the bill will never get 2/3 vote.

I say bringing the bill up is a win-win situation.

16. It's OK....I didn't mean to be snarky, there. Sorry.
I just think back to all of the bogus votes the Repubs forced on the Dems during their reign in Congress.

I know payback is childish, but it sounds sweet to me right now.

15. Yes. GOP would force a vote given similarly lopsided circumstances.

18. That would just be MEAN
And, and, and, it's playing POLITICS with people's lives, and you know how the Republicans hate it when that happens. And the Beltway insiders wouldn't think it was very funny, forcing the Republicans to either endorse death panels or refudiate the Brilliant Ryan Bill. We're all supposed to just admire the Ryan bill and its dazzling brilliance; if you look at it too closely, you'll ruin it!

20. If He Doesn't He's A Fool...
Here's where that awful 60 vote rule works in his favor. I don't think there are 40 Democrats who would even think of voting down Medicare and it would wedge a lot of rushpublicans. Watch Snotty Brown have to squirm and the same goes for any rushpublican in a blue or purple state. They vote for it, they're signing their own resignation letter...

Get 'em on record. Make 'em vote to wipe out Medicare. Put the light on the rest of the draconian Ryan scheme. Make Ryan the poster child for greed and what a rushpublican government stands for...
