Just a friendly reminder. The "Jesus comedians" are out in droves today.

If you insult someone for the color of their skin, their gender, their sexuality...OR their freedom to worship as THEY see FIT...you're pond scum, a bigot.

Some folks in DU are wearing the white hood today. It's EASTER. Show a little fucking respect or open the flood gates for the other categories I've named.

Thanks in advance,

Your pal,

A.V.

3. I respect EVERYONE'S right to worship as they see fit.
That includes, Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, EVERYONE...I do not post here in order to seek "agreement" regarding my religious beliefs.

We respect others, or we don't. Today has been a BIG day for disrespect on DU. We should be ashamed, but sadly, I know we're not.

I could sit still and shut my fucking mouth and not question the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-wise mods who don't shut this shit down the minute it's posted.

I chose not to do that.

57. And if someone's "right to worship"
and practice their religion involves denying equal rights to gays or teaching Hebrew tribal myths as science in public schools, you'd respect that too?

Have a nice life.

2. Your category has fallen apart
By trying to shoehorn a belief about a person in along with 2 groups of people, you render it meaningless.

Insulting someone for their 'freedom to worship' isn't something I've seen, though - presumably you mean there are people saying the American First Amendment is a bad thing?

I like the comedy of following up "you're pond scum, a bigot" with "show a little fucking respect".

8. Good point
Criticizing someone for the color of their skin, their gender, their sexuality, is not the same thing as criticizing their voluntary belief systems.

But of course, that's no reason to be an asshole about their beliefs. :)

5. Please spare us the poor victimized Christian shtick
Nobody is insulting anyone for their "freedom to worship", nor is anyone interfering with it. Christianity and "faith" get a free pass on so many things in this country and are so relentlessly promoted by government and the media that playing the persecuted minority borders on the ludicrous.

11. Just curious...where are the threads insulting Christians today?
I see a few threads gently poking fun at the holiday itself, and the notion of someone raising from the dead...but I'm having a hard time seeing any hate-filled threads directly attacking Christians.

Just to clarify...is it just because it's Easter that we're supposed to STFU? Are we allowed to question or comment on any religious beliefs? Are threads about the "Rapture" off-limits? Are we allowed to point out religious inconsistencies or is that now deemed "hate speech"?

By the way, epic fail on equating poking fun of the Easter Resurrection with hate speech targeting race, gender, and sexuality.

as long as we don't make bigoted statements like, "I don't believe in God". :eyes: Is Atheism the same as being GLBT? Obviously, no. But if you don't think that there's been real societal pressure in this country for unbelievers to stay silent about our unbelief, you haven't been paying attention.

In short, the one similarity between Atheists and GLBT folks has been society's expectation that we pretend to be something we're not.

I haven't seen the zombie jesus thread, so I can't speak to the validity of the outrage around it.

it's just as bigoted to insult someone for believing thousands of people have been anally probed by aliens as it is to insult them for being mentally retarded, or jewish, or black, or white, or female.

well, it would be if millions of people believed in mass alien anal raping anyway.

27. Yours is a common demand on DU. Show some fucking respect.
It is ironic in a way that to me describes the entire dialog about 'faith' here on DU. The idea of this demand for some fucking respect is that this is a day about Jesus. But what did Jesus say to his followers about mocker and persecution that he promised would come for the sake of believing in him? He said they should rejoice and be glad. He failed to say a thing about demanding some fucking respect in his name. He said rejoice when mocked for his name's sake. This teaching, among many others, never seem to come to the mind of the faith community here, who never seem to rejoice when even ribbed a bit. Much less persecuted. So I wonder about the demand for some fucking respect, and the teaching of Jesus, and why the one never seems to meet the other.
Just an observation.

There are cool atheists, and there are asshole atheists
There are cool Christians and asshole Christians,
You could plug in any religion or lack of, and still get the same formula, out of every group, there will be some good people, some bad people.

So, if you do not like it when people lump you into one type, do not lump others,

or as Confucius said thousands of years before Christ sated any "golden rule" : "what you do not like when done to you, do not do to others."

61. Uh, no...the point was
that the poster used the ridiculous phrase "us true Christians" to make it look like their interpretation of the Bible and their way of practicing their religion is the only correct one, and that any who do it differently are wrong and bad. Not only is that divisive among Christians in a way I could never be, but it's been demonstrated as fallacious so often that any thinking person should be ashamed to use such an argument.

As far as the "golden rule", if I used such a deeply flawed argument, I'd expect to be smacked down for it. Savvy?
