Florida unions pull funds from banks that support Chamber of Commerce
Edited on Sun Apr-24-11 03:33 PM by TheBigotBasher
In Florida, where Republican lawmakers want to prevent public employee unions from collecting dues through government payroll systems, labor leaders have decided to pull their organizations accounts from banks connected to the Florida Chamber of Commerce, a major backer of the initiative.

Unions representing teachers, firefighters, police and other government workers in the central part of the state are withdrawing millions of dollars from five banks whose executives sit on the chambers board of directors. Those banks are Bank of America, PNC Bank, Regions Bank, SunTrust and Wachovia.

Labor leaders also are urging their membersabout 20,000to pull their personal accounts from the financial institutions, which they hope will bring the withdrawn total to $10 million.

A Chamber of Commerce spokesman was going to respond but all he could mouth was "tax cuts".

(Update - I highlighted the banks).

2. AFL-CIO says 94.4% of FL workers are non-union. Union members are perhaps 64% govt workers.

5. Speak in a language they understand
Looking forward to the inevitable whining from the banks about how misunderstood they are, and this is nothing but a childish move by the unions, and GIVE US BACK OUR MONEY, WAAAAAHHHHH!

Should have done that years ago.

There's a lot of reasons everyone should take their money out of all the big banks and put it into a local credit union.

11. People are afraid of putting salaries in to credit unions though,
so if big unions did then people may follow.
