The story has a lot of moral merit ..
Edited on Sun Apr-24-11 12:45 PM by UndertheOcean
you know , A revolutionary came who stood up to the Empire at his time and called for a more just , compassionate society . Withered torture and ridicule by the system while forgiving their ignorance ... and while he might not have risen from the dead literally his "soul" if you will (which I think is his imprint on human culture for 2000 years ) was truly immortal.

No need to add all the son of a virgin and big guy in the sky , walk on water , come back from death nonsense. The story is already grand without all the bells and whistles .

on that note , Happy Easter everyone !

ps. Just say no to grown men in bunny costumes , that is really creepy.

1. And happy Easter to you too. This truly is a great story
of one man standing up against all odds for the rights of the masses.

On edit, was not trying to stir anything up, it's just that it is very interesting, to me anyway. When in high school in the 1950s, my favorite part of the Latin classes was the mythology of the Greeks/Romans.

6. It's interesting to me, too.
I don't need to google; I'm fascinated by the pagan origins of every christian holiday that I can think of. I just thought some others who were unaware might like to explore.

5. Its also an instructive lesson in supporting those who stand up and stand out.
Think of watching Erin Brockovich, and knowing that she will triumph. At the time, however, she knew NONE of that. She took a lot of risks, and could have gone down. The movie doesn't really show that she got very sick from the exposure to the toxins. It isn't inconceivable that she could have suffered very bad effects from what she did.

The point is, standing outside, it looks easy to speak out, and take risks for the good of others. It isn't... it is very hard. Rather than standing back, as the disciples did in the Garden of Gethsemane, we need to stand with those who stand up.

IF we do, and if we do in large numbers, the outcome can be better.

Thanks for the thread.... it is truly in the spirit of the Sermon On the Mount! :yourock:
