Newspapers have been teaming up with a lawfirm called Righthaven, to file lawsuits against people posting copyrighted content on the web. Righthaven's detractors call them "copyright trolls," but they say they're much needed protectors of a newspaper's intellectual property. Bob talks to Joe Mullin of Paidcontent.org who has covered Righthaven's lawsuits, and Righthaven CEO Steve Gibson.

NOTE: No transcript until Monday..but you can listen to the interview.

In the latest Righthaven news, the company appears to be moving forward with a new lawsuit filed yesterday, a week after a judge ruled that Righthaven cant ask for domain names of the defendants it sues for copyright infringement. Our own Joe Mullin appeared on WNYCs On The Media on NPR to discuss recent Righthaven developments, including who the company is suing and why. Later in the episode, Righthaven CEO Steve Gibson explains his companys actions, insisting it is protecting ownership rights from content thieves and that it is serving the best interest of content owners. 3. I heard that segment yesterday.
Gibson sounded like a concern troll. It's pretty obvious he's in it for the money. Apparently Righthaven doesn't really own the copyright, just the rights to sue? Sounds like a frivolous lawsuit generator - the kind of thing that republicans hate (sarcasm).
