The Mean Spirited Mentality Behind the GOPís War On Seniors and Jobs
When Republicans took control of the House in January, political observers had a basic idea of the agenda the new majority would pursue based on promises during the midterm campaigns. It was not surprising there was a vote to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act even though the vote was symbolic and had no chance of passing the Senate or President Obamaís veto pen.

What was and is still surprising is that Republicans have not proposed any measures to create jobs or bolster the still sluggish economy regardless the budget deal Congress worked out with the president and Democrats. It isnít that the Republican majority has been lax during their first three months, they have actually been working tirelessly to change the nature of our country as seen in the Heritage Foundationís budget that Representative Paul Ryan is pimping to the country.

Ryan is finding that Americans are not as excited with Heritageís reworking of America as conservatives hoped, and it may be that the mean, hateful vision of America controlled by corporations is not representative of Americansí values. However, before Ryan presented the Heritage plan for the future, Republicans had already proven that this group may well be the most hateful, mean-spirited assembly America has ever witnessed. One thing is absolutely certain; Republicans are out to destroy the middle class and drive the country into the ground now and for generations to follow, all in the name of socially conservative values and corporate rule.

1. The terms hateful and mean-spirited are much too benign to capture the depths
of depravity oozing from Ryan's Heritage Foundation budget. :patriot:

2. What ever happened to conservatives who actually wanted to conserve things?
The old-style Burkean conservatives of 50 years ago could be a pain in the butt, because they always wanted to hold back and go slow when the liberals were hell-bent on rushing forward towards that new frontier. But at least they did it in the name of maintaining stability and community and thinking twice before doing something you might regret.

But somewhere in the course of the 1960's, the right got a bad case of revolution envy. They wanted to be as cool and as hip as the lefties and were terrified of appearing stodgy and stick-in-the-mud. Ever since then they've been all about radical change and creative destruction. The only trace that's left of what used to be conservatism is a lingering attachment to small-town values, combined with a fierce devotion to the interests of the financial elite.

The result is the worst of both worlds -- a headlong rush into uncharted territory based on an antipathy towards tolerance, the rights of workers and minorities, and even basic fairness. And who needs that?
