It is not only disappointing but it is disingenuous for the President to be critical of Chairman Ryan and House Leadership for offering up ideas to save Medicare, after he successfully fought for a massive new entitlement in his healthcare bill that was paid for by taking $500 billion out of Medicare. While it’s been framed this way, this budget will not privatize Medicare, it won’t turn Medicaid into a voucher program and it won’t cut Social Security benefits. Those are scare tactics that have been raised that just aren’t true. I strongly believe that those of us in the Congress, both sides, all must sit down and partner in doing what’s best for our country, not what’s best for our next election. I offer my commitment to work in good faith and meet the challenges ahead as we draft legislation to achieve the savings laid out in the budget adopted today."
