3. I don't have a link
but:

KHARTOUM, December 14, 2010 (AFP) - Sudanese authorities arrested about
30 women who tried to hold a protest in Khartoum on Tuesday against the
brutal police whipping of a young woman as seen in a video posted on
YouTube.

...

The judiciary on Monday announced it was probing the incident.

"An investigation was launched into the lashing of a young woman as seen
on a website, and the implementation of sanctions that go against what
is outlined in the criminal code," it said.

...

Sections of Sudan's 1991 Criminal Code, imposed two years after
President Omar al-Bashir came to power in a military-backed coup,
mandate lashings for "indecent" behaviour, adultery or running a
brothel.

but it's funny, there are always a lot more posts on the threads about mad islamists whipping women than on the threads about US drones bombing them.

I thought we were bombing the people who like to whip women for wearing trousers (in addition to the multitude of other nasty things they do).

they don't care about that.

i excuse nothing. my point is different: that some people like to highlight the atrocities of the people the US is making undeclared war on; and so does the US.

both, in effect, are justifying that war. which preceded the trouser whipping.

btw, i saw that video a couple of days before you posted it. on a winger site.

they get all that stuff first. i wonder why?

I always think that it is obvious when I am being sarcastic, and I never cease to be surprised when people don't pick up on it. I think I need to adjust my expectations, at least here on DU.

14. So we should stand by and allow it to continue?
No one should stand and be the voice of the oppressed?

No one should care?

It is all part of their wonderful culture that should be celebrated.

These people are not opressed, they are free to live and enjoy their cuture.

They deserve no amnesty, they deserve no thought, they deserve no pity, they deserve no voice? We should not pass judgement on another culture? Even if that culture violates human rights?

16. Sucks. What's your plan? World War III?
When a nation chooses to murder its own, there is very little anyone outside can do. Boycott, embargo...and look how many people here are still complaining about the embargo on Iraq.

So what is it you think is our obligation as a nation to do?

19. No, not WWIII
Sitting idle and stating that we should not pass judgment on a different culture is to basically ignore the issue.

This shit goes on in this country every day, and people rarely give two shits because it is a 3rd world country full of brown people who are constantly infighting over control of the oil. No matter who wins or loses, or who gets oppressed the US still gets its oil.

Ignoring it and stating that we should not judge different cultures is bull shit.

I feel that giving these people a voice and letting them be heard would be a huge step. If more people cared, the reality of the issue would become a priority. But most people in this world could care less. Not because they don't give a shit, but because they don't know what is going on. I applaud this video. Not because of what happened, but because of what it exposes.
