Fetid troglodyte mofos, aka Republicans, FAIL in effort to end domestic partner benefits in Michigan

from the Detroit Free Press:

The Michigan House failed today in what is likely to be its final attempt to overturn a controversial decision by the state Civil Service Commission to approve domestic partner benefits for about 33,000 state workers.

The House voted 66-41 mostly along party lines with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed to reverse the commission's decision, short of the 74-vote two-thirds majority needed under the state Constitution.

The Senate earlier approved a resolution to reverse the commission, but both chambers would be needed to prevent the order from going into effect on Oct. 1.

The commission voted in January to allow eligible state employees to add a live-in partner (without regard to gender) to the employees health insurance plan. It was designed to provide coverage to the same-sex partners of public employees without violating Michigans marriage amendment (which restricts marriage and its benefits to one man-one woman couples). ...........(more)

1. They knew going in they didn't have the votes
Isn't it nice that there's nothing else going on in Michigan that the House could take time out for a meaningless vote to assuage the fee-fees of bigots?
