Reminds me of a book I read when I was a teen "Level 7" by Mordecai Roshwald. I highly recommend it, and some of the parallels (the people feeling safe in their bunkers from radiation, then gradually realizing that they will be poisoned in spite of their safeguards) really resonate.

1. Oh, you're so alarmist
As long as you keep enough live tissue (read: bodies of hourly workers willing to die for your profits) between you and the nuclear event, most of the radiation will be absorbed and never get to you. Why do you think the owners of these plants never build them in their own back yards, but site them somewhere amongst the teeming proles?

3. Relax. They're only venting a little steam.
I know Science, and Nuclear Plants are completely safe.
They have been engineered to withstand Earthquakes, Theorists, and Natural Disasters.
Only Luddites and other stupid people would question the safety of Nuclear Power.
Did I mention that I know "Science"?
