Six-month spending bill unveiled: What's cut and what's not
By Erik Wasson - 04/12/11 08:14 AM ET

Compared to 2010 levels, there are big cuts to cherished Democratic-backed programs. The Women, Infants and Children nutrition program is cut $504 million, foreign food assistance by $194 million and assistance to state and local law enforcement by $415 million.

The Environmental Protection Agency is cut by $1.6 billion, a 16 percent reduction; lawmakers from westerns states were able to include a rider allowing states to de-list wolves from the endangered species list.

.......................

Health funding also takes a serious hit. Community healthcare centers lose $600 million in funds while HIV and other disease prevention funds are cut by $1 billion. But Democrats noted that the health centers would not have to close altogether under a cut of this size.

14. Wouldn't the obvious solution be
to move the wolves from where they are unwanted pradators (Montana) to where they would be near the bottom of the food chain (DC)?

11. But but but...Planned Parenthood!
As I noted elsewhere, The repubs asked for 80 bill in terrible cuts and 20 bill in criminal cuts, so Obama got his "victory" by stopping the 20 bill in criminal cuts. Except we are now finding that there were more like 50 bill in criminal, irresponsible cuts, and many of those went through.

A good negotiator would have told Boner, " hey, I want a 1:1 tax increase for every cut. Let's start with Oil company subsidies...." Negotiation should be about give and take, not take and take...

13. You know the Right made a big deal out of Obama coming out
of the Chicago Political Machine, and I would have thought that machine would have taught him how to negotiate. I mean they talked about Chicago politics like the city was run by the Mafia and implied Obama was trained by this Machine, and yet the guy is a terrible negotiate.

15. What makes you think he's not negotiating and getting what he wants?
Including the "cover" of having the Rs give the appearance of forcing him to do it?

18. Because a lot of us really don't want to consider that possibility
It hurts too much. Being a weak negotiator is better than being a collaborator with the enemy.

16. hmmm, that sounds like a big cut for the EPA
but according to SAUS

EPA funding
2000 - 7.2
2003 - 8.0
2004 - 8.3
2005 - 7.9
2006 - 8.3
2007 - 8.3
2008 - 7.9
2009 - 8.1
2010 - 10.0
2011 - 8.4

so funding has been stagnant for a while and it is still up from 2009.
